My understanding is when Teengenerate started their scene was new and they thought it was cool to have their records released anywhere, without really giving it much more thought.
Many of those labels were not very good/organized/communicative and they couldn't even get copies of what they did, responses to their fax/email, etc.
The scene has now matured a bit, so they are not as impressed just with the fact of with having a record released abroad.
Additionally CDs still sell well in Japan, and people who buy the stuff in America like vinyl, so they started doing CDs in Japan and in some cases licensing the vinyl in the States.
I saw the Firestarter records going for what I thought was high prices on ebay, etc, and genuinely wanted to help w/ the next one, thinking certainly if you have a fair number of people in the States who want it, it is a problem that can be solved, by either shipping a bunch for distro to cut down on postage, or pressing a bunch in the States. But as I said, they already had it well under control. But Fifi offered to do that Saturday Night 7", I think just to be nice, and maybe because I lived there and was in his bar often so it wasn't quite so distant.
Bisco, Episode Sounds, who did the Black and White and Louder singles posted in the new release board, so you could PM him for a contact or info on any of his stuff.
Black and White are awesome humans who go on my "friends so automatically like band" list, so it's great to hear other people hold them in high regard.
Steve I want to hear some of those Needle 7"s you were talking about!
