Fan Death Records fall 2012 - TACO LEG LP, PURLING HISS CS, Roomrunner tour!

What's up, suckers.  We have two new releases and a big tour to announce. All of these are available at our website.

FDR-034 - Taco Leg - s/t LP

Taco Leg are the best band in the world. No, seriously. The Perth trio of Andrew Murray, Simon Morrison, and Richard Ingham has been blowing us away since we first came across their Myspace page shortly after starting Fan Death. The currently out of print Freemason?s Hall 7? (FDR- 004) may initially have confused and irritated listeners from Cottesloe to College Park, Maryland, but the record itself is an essential document of the recent Australian underground, two trebly tracks about architecture and boredom in Western Australia. Following that, Taco Leg released Painted Gold, a three-song 7? on noted Philadelphia rock label Richie Records/TestosterTunes, and had a US tour in late 2010 that coincided with the release of the McRib.

Taco Leg?s self-titled LP wastes no time in making its mark, its 12 tracks clocking in at just under 20 minutes. Many of these tracks barely crack the minute mark, but like their Perth punk ancestors from the Victims to Extortion, their songs are direct and lodge in your brain until you find yourself thinking about ?Raiders of the Lost Ark?. If you?re familiar with Taco Leg, the elements are all there - minimal guitar lines and stripped-down, proto-punk drumming, with singer Murray?s unforgettable voice intoning cryptic lyrics. This is the record where they?ve fully honed their sound, and very nearly have learned how to play their instruments. Whether it?s on the shambling swagger of ?Shut It Down,? self described ?Detroit hardcore? song ?Find Me,? or the tension of ?I Can?t Decide? (not a Black Flag cover), Taco Leg perfectly encapsulate the feeling of being young and bored without being boring.

Members of Taco Leg also appear in a number of other great bands, all of which are incredible and essential to check out, including: Pauline Manson, Constant Mongrel, Whalehammer, Pond, and Ringham?s garage-punk/ prank call project Ring.

RIYL: Eddy Current Suppression Ring, Bratmobile, The UV Race, Swell Maps, K Records 1982-1993

The track "Raiders" is available at our Soundcloud, but we're going to have a stream up of the record shortly. http://soundcloud.com/fandeathrecords/taco-leg-raiders

Also note: tests have been approved for this LP, but due to an issue with the artwork that was entirely our fault (oops), they'll be in in about two weeks. If you place an order that includes the Taco Leg LP, it will ship in early/mid November once we get the records in.

FDR-035 - Purling Hiss - A Little Off-Center? (Live at WFMU) CS

For those who have been living under a rock, Purling Hiss is the brainchild of Mike Polizze (Birds of Maya). Though the Hiss started out as a four-track bedroom project dating back to the earlier part of the 2000s, their killer sound and even more killer songs couldn?t just be restricted to vinyl. Merging the blistering guitar shredding of Les Rallizes D?nud?s with the pop sensibilities of GG Allin & The Jabbers, Purling Hiss released three LPs on Richie, Woodsist, and Permanent Records in the span of just one year, and later played their debut shows opening for Kurt Vile and The Violators in 2010.

A Little Off Center was recorded during the tail end of that first tour and reveals a band that sounds as if they?d been getting in the van for years. This cassette has choice live cuts from both the self-titled and Public Service Announcement LPs, along with tracks
that would appear on the then-unreleased EP, Lounge Lizards, subsequently released on Mexican Summer in 2011. Songs such as ?Run From The City? and ?Almost Washed My Hair? display the raw strength and control that Purling Hiss demonstrates live, while ?Voices? highlights their loose feel. By the end of this set it?s evident that A Little Off Center is way more than just a live release, it?s a document of a band staking their claim as one of the best rock bands around. It?s no surprise once you see Purling Hiss live that they?ve won over the bands they?ve toured with from Wilco to Dinosaur Jr. Expect a new LP from Drag City in 2013.
RIYL: High Rise, Mudhoney, Raspberries, Kurt Vile and The Violators, Les Ralliz?s D?nud?s

Side A
1. Run From The City
2. Don?t Even Try It
3. Passenger Queen
Side B
1. Voices
2. Almost Washed My Hair

WFMU has this hosted at their Free Music Archive, which you can stream or download here.

Also, Americans should be aware that Roomrunner are about to go on an extensive US tour, where they will be reviewing taquito quality of 7-11s across America. There are a couple off dates that are getting filled, so check out their
tumblr
for the latest updates.

If you have any questions (press-related or otherwise) or have issues with an order, email us at fandeathrecords@gmail.com and I'll put my BOOT to your LIP.

ello FDR fans -

It's been a busy summer for us, we've been working hard on new releases for you. Below you'll find info on our newest release from Philadelphia's Leather as well as a preview from our next release by the legendary collective, To Live And Shave In LA. Below you'll find more info on these releases.

Along with these releases we are doing a week-long end of summer sale. The sale is on all in-print catalog titles (excluding the new Leather 7"), including titles we're running low on copies of. Get 'em now or cry later. This sale lasts from 8/9 to 8/16 and quantities are limited, so buy it now or cry over a Discogs page later. BUY SHIT http://www.fandeathrecords.com

OUT NOW: Leather - Wretch 7" (FDR-027)

IN STOCK NOW
Philadelphia's Leather are wasting no time in whetting the appetite of their ravenous fanbase by releasing one of the most anticipated punk records of the year. Hot on the heels of their Sterile 7" (Jade Tree), their latest four-songer,Wretch, is a testament to their unpredictability. While both sides start out with pounding, ferocious hardcore clang, the second track on each side marks exciting detours for the band. The A-side's "Idolator" puts singer Alex Agran's vocals front and center while the band careens behind him like the bastard children of Poison Idea and SST-era Soundgarden. The B-side's "Moyamensing Killers," on the other hand, is their current set closer and shortest track to date, topping out at barely over one minute of sharp guitar noise and an infectious vocal chant. After a couple spins of this record, anything you play after will sound as limp as a Big Mac left on the dashboard of a Toyota Tercel.

NEXT: To Live and Shave in LA - The Cort?ge LP (FDR-026)

We are proud to announce the release of The Cort?ge, the final studio session from legendary freak collective TO LIVE AND SHAVE IN L.A. Recorded by Don Fleming in 2007 at Think Tank studios in Hoboken, NJ, The Cort?ge is a completely different journey from what one might expect from TLASILA. Songs like "Flattering Circles of Hell" and "'Til Their Legs Gave Way'" go far beyond the usual noise exercises they are known for and drifts into a darker yet beautiful place that will surprise even the most TLASILA completist. This final LP features members of the 2007 TLASILA collective: Ben Wolcott, Andrew W.K., Patrick Spurlock, Tom Smith, Mark Shellhaas, Nondor Nevai, Mark Morgan, Graham Moore, Misty Martinez, Cherie Lily, Kelly Jamison, Chris Grier, Don Fleming, Frank "Rat Bastard" Falestra, Dimthingshine (formerly Dimthings), and Andrew "Gaybomb" Barranca.

pre orders for PRF about half gone

Hi music fans, it feels like it's been a minute since we talked to you last.  FDR has a new 12" and 7" out, and an LP that we have preorder information for.  All of these records are excellent releases that you will enjoy on repeated listens.

Our newest release: FDR-023 - PLEASURE LEFTISTS - SIX-SONG 12"

?On their debut six-song 12-inch, Cleveland's PLEASURE LEFTISTS bring six tracks of driving, distant post-punk that skirts the monochrome gradient and darkened corridors of early gothic rock and death rock. The first band that we've worked with based on the strength of a demo, PL wowed us immediately with their fully-realized reverbed-out dark vision. The curious need look no further than leadoff track, ?Nature Of Feeling? an exercise in nervous tension featuring an urgent rhythm section, a saw blade-sharp guitar tone, topped with singer HALEY MORRIS? low, morbid howl. The song ?Suits? progresses this sound further with its almost call to arms thumping bass. ?Passage on a Ghost Ship? is a mini epic where the vocals push and pull until the song bursts completely open. Pleasure Leftists will be playing selected Midwest and East Coast dates in 2011.?

We have a stream of the album available here, in case you want to hear the whole thing and/or buy a digital copy (copies of the 12" come with download code).  http://fandeathrecords.bandcamp.com/album/s-t-12

Also, last month we released FDR-018 - SCREEN VINYL IMAGE - SIBERIAN ECLIPSE 7", and this pressing is a little over halfway gone, so snag it while you can:

"After wearing out our copies of their Custom Made Music debut Interceptors, and seeing their deafening, sensory-overload live shows, we knew we had to release something by SCREEN VINYL IMAGE, who we said were ?one of two good bands in DC? in early 2010. On the ?Siberian Eclipse? 7-inch, SVI have put out possibly their most melodic and dance-oriented work yet, building on the deathrace drones of their previous psychedelic synth excursions. The title track, a staple of their live sets for nearly two years now, appears here in its final state, featuring a stuttering drum pattern backing frigid synths and melting-glacier guitar swirls. ?New Visions? finds SVI grafting their heavily processed and futuristic sound to a more classic synthpop melody, akin to Low-Life-era New Order playing the Hacienda in 2084.?

Coming in early June: FDR-025 - PUERTO RICO FLOWERS - 7 LP

What you've all been waiting for.  This full-length record from PRF can be heard here: http://soundcloud.com/fandeathrecords/sets/puerto-rico-flowers-7

We're doing a small number of preorders for this release in our web store, because we figured people might want to snag our recent releases in one swoop.  People who preorder this record get a small token of our gratitude, and their records will ship before the official release date.

These records are available from our new and improved web store, in addition to our in-print titles (some of which we're getting really low on copies of), and a few distro titles we found in a box.  Some things are getting put up that are OOP, others that were sorely overlooked the first time around!
