Upcoming Shows/Tours/Events / Aids Wolf and Red Mass tomorrow Atlanta

Just also saw that 2 termbo combos will be playing
at 529 tomorrow night - so get a glimpse of  bands
playing at the KDVS fest and Gonerfest -  tomorrow in the ATL.
This show is also at the 529 club in east atlanta.

This looks like a rather strong underground bill for this
Saturday night here in Atlanta.  Flap is an old combo
dating back to the mid 90s.  They were on the same
local label as Bob, Toenut, early Harvey Milk, and Clobber
(Half Baked Records).  In a nutshell the acoustic guitarists
play off of each other doing a fusion meets John Fahey
kinda thang.  I saw em back in the day and always thought
them excellant.

Strapping Fieldhands are from Louisville (I think?) and they are
an old Terrrascope/Alt rock combo whose sound crosses
genres.  The one disc (on Shangri-la records) I have is a bit
hard to pin down for me - this is why I really want to see
this group live to get the real audible picture.
Siltbreeze also gives these folks the thumbs up.

For further info on Flap you can go here

The show is this saturday from the 529 clubs sight  - the date on the
creative loafing article seems to be wrongo.

Enjoy yourself

Non-Music Shit / Re: Baseball 2010 thread

While deleting old emails today I ran across this Denkinger
baseball prediction dated September of 2009.  It looks like
his Braves prediction might be low since they just won
their 53rd game.  And the Mets will do well if they can go (at least)
.500 on their current, difficult road trip.

Here is the old email

You want HYPE?

I pick the Braves to win the Division next year. Yup. The Phillies have
enjoyed near-perfect health for years, one of those guys in their core
has to get hurt. The Braves pitching next year is gonna be damn damn good,
but they need those young outfielders to develop like the Dodgers core did
this year. Think:

Braves 92-70
Phillies 89-73
Marlins 85-77
Mets 81-81
Nationals 68-94

hey doug-i think i saw you on the option 2 list which is going out this weekend...also got your message today (living in the country=lost calls) anyways good to hear from you and it'll be good to see you at the end of the month

Thanks for this update.  I am option 2.  Heat is beginning to be a
factor here in Lilburn.   I will look for this after next weekend  (5/18ish).
I was kind of nervous this week, but knew I was a bit early, (but info
and posts were a bit vague/confused)

Look forward to the beyond          and the singles....

My quarterly package has never arrived hear in the Atlanta area.
Am I MIA?   Or is the package still at the CDR Headquarters?

Mike Rep and the Quotas - Songs The Grackle Wrote

I hadn't played this in a while.  I played side 2 and the 1st track Lemuria
(this is misspelled)  excited me today.  The vibe the band evoked brought the
band Gonn to mind.  An up-tempo rocker with distant psych guitar and not
many sound effects at all - just straight ahead solid rockin - live this cut would
smoke - dug this 12" today more than ever.

The Terminals - Psycho Lives/Witchdoctor 7"

This single brought the Styrenes to mind.  That my not be completely accurate,
but an Ohio vibe did seem apparent.  The songs seem to meander a bit
rhythmically, but it all seems cohesive as a package.  I guess the unstructured
outsider sound makes it hard to pin down (for me).  Still  I dug it
Again - distant psycho guitar in the background.

The Defektors  - latest LP

I don't own this LP but the 2 songs that DJ Rick has provided via his
mp3 radio shows are absolutely stellar - this band smokes.

Music Shit / A Frames video
« on: April 29, 2010, 12:10:08 PM »
It's been awhile since I last posted.

I found this  A Frames video linking to the Normal TV site via
the Static Party website.  I was able to download and watch it
last night.  Tho the sound didn't quite live up to what I would
expect to hear in person (the guitar amp squall just didn't come
through), the audio is still good.  If you want to get a
taste in advance of the A Frames live use this link.
