Non-Music Shit / Re: KENNETH ANGER AT PS1 New York

ahaha.

My friend works at "Records" a used shop in Sacto, and yesterday some lady came in with a copy of the "Lucifer Rising" soundtrack... the one scored by Jimmy Page that was never used.  This old lady and her husband were total wiccan, satan-ists or something back in the day, and they bought the tapes for that from Kenneth Anger for $500 or something, then issued in on vinyl.  But he sued them and seized all of the copies.  She was able to swindle a dozen or so and brought one in.  But she wouldn't sell it to him for any less than $300, haha, so obviously he didn't buy it.  But it's a pretty far out thing.

san francisco water cooler ? rocker's escape

I really don't think it's merely my hometown pride when I say that this song must be vaunted to the status of decade-defining classic.

Wait till you hear the new record, it's done, on CDR... Dave's shopping around for a label now--- supposedly.  I'm going to town this weekend because I convinced the guys there are three or four great songs that need to be out, so we're recording material for a 7" ep.... and playing a show at Villanova on Tuesday... you should come out!

Rocker's Escape isn't my song... but I'm totally with you, those guys know how to record, lemme tell ya.

I don't see why anyone e-mails to deal with stuff like this.

Bummer that United raised their prices.  I used to just WAIT for their sale.  Got 500 records and mastering and printed labels shipped to my door for $1000 once, super fuckin' deal.

Kevin that's super fucked about your project, but not reflective of my experiences with United.  I have horror stories about other plants though.

Non-Music Shit / Re: its mold!
« on: February 23, 2009, 01:26:35 PM »
I've heard that bleach for treating mold is similar to treating your dirty hands with anti-bacterial goo.  Bleach will only kill 90% of the mold or something, and the strong strains that survive will reproduce and be resistant to bleach.  You gotta watch out.  My old boss at the moldy record store I worked at used to use apple vinegar or some shit.  Tea Tree oil would probably work too.

I don't understand their criteria for foreign films...how come Slumdog Millionaire was in the running for best picture and not best foreign film? Are Brit films not considered foreign? I'm glad it won, though.

I think it's gotta be in a foreign language, it's elevated to higher-art cuz you gotta read, ya know?

uuuh.... slumdog millionaire can't hold a candle to this movie:

Music Shit / Re: In opposition to the sound guy thread...
« on: February 22, 2009, 04:33:24 PM »
The reason there are so many shitty sound guys is because in most cities people don't get those jobs because of their experience, but because of who they know.  You'd get laughed at for walking into some popular bar/venue and handing them a resume sight-unseen.
