Music Shit / Re: In opposition to the sound guy thread...
« on: February 22, 2009, 04:31:42 PM »As a sound guy you get to deal with music for your money. You get to hang out and have beers and do sound. You never really have to work till nights. I mean life sounds good.
Truth be told, 90% of the time a complete amateur could do your job with 5 minutes of training, but you still get paid $$ and booze, fuckin' great.
But, fact is it doesn't pay the bills and interferes with the other job you gotta have. It really sucks on those days where you work 9am-5pm then do sound from 9pm-2am, then work the next morning and do it all over again, uuugh.
My only pet peeve with bands is when they think I have control over EVERYTHING. I can't give you more monitor, if I could I would have done it the last fifteen times you asked.
But the best part is all the folks you get to deal with and some great stories.
I remember at Operation Restore Maximum Freedom 1 -- a hobbled together 20-band fest with a real joke of a PA system-- seriously a production line of live music, 20 minute sets, 10 minutes TOPS b/w bands including load/unload, sound check, etc.--- this band Walking in the Neon had a total shitfest temper tantrum over the sound. Sorry I only have one monitor mix, we picked up all this shit at 9am today and I'm really hungover, everyone else just rocked the fuck out and had a good time and ignored the occasional feedback squall, stop taking yourselves so seriously. It's great cause then you can talk shit on all the bands who are assholes and egomaniacs.
