Oh, and the first Montrose LP for sure. It's only like a buck.

A lot of people are mentioning early Bee Gees. While the early Brit/American albums like from "Bee Gees First" on are great (I've never seen "First" in decent shape for less than eight bucks though) THEE fucking Bee Gees to get are the nine songs comps of their pre-"First" Aussie material. They're always like three or four bucks max and are all awesome.

When I got into powerpop it was partially because the records were so cheap/easy to find. Not always the case anymore with all of these but here are great records that should be easy enough to find for under $8. Most are in the $4 and under range:

A's "s/t" LP
20/20 s/t LP (everyone's got this, right?)
Action Now "All Your Dreams" LP
Kinks "Schoolboys in Disgrace" and "Soap Opera" (Don't pay more than $3 for the later cause the only great song is "Ducks on a Wall")
Those mono Sire comps of Pretty Things, Troggs, etc.
Lou Reed "Street Hassle" LP

There's a bunch more I'm not thinking of right now. Piper's s/t LP is a must have, but "Out of Control" is the only mega jam on there. Reminds me of Artful Dodger or something.

Non-Music Shit / Re: MLK Day
« on: January 19, 2009, 12:25:54 PM »
Not to state the obvious, but MLK was the man. Read a book of his speeches once and dude was the next best thing to Gandhi.

I'm not working today, nor am I getting paid not to do so, but I'm fine with that since I got to sleep in.

Pop Punk / Re: Life Without Hype

This just in: most bands end up playing shows to nobody at some point in time. It happens. Especially on a Sunday night in January.

Non-Music Shit / Re: haiku for mitch

I'm terrible with breaking down English into syllables so here's a real life Japanese haiku for you. It settles the raging Bashou/Soriano debate.

ソリアーノと
比べたら芭蕉
はへたくそ

Translates roughly to "Compared to Soriano Bashou ain't shit."

Here's my proof:

vinnie, do not touch
mitch belongs to me, you fuck
but i will rent him

Imagine going to a tea ceremony with this written in calligraphy on some scroll hanging in the corner. Beautiful.

I DECLARE TOTAL WAR.

Twin Peaks is the most overrated show in the history of television. Laura Palmer can blow me, as can that backwards talking midget.

New Releases For Sale/Distro Updates / Re: New SPIDER EP Avaialble Now...
« on: January 16, 2009, 11:24:15 PM »
I'm pretty sure "Spiderlili" is a different mix/take than on the Hozac single. It's not quite as malevolent. Also, wasn't the Hozac tracklisting in the opposite order (ie "Charlie" first, and that "heart beats like a metronome" song on the b-side)?

Can anyone explain a reading of this band's new name to me that doesn't involve sodomy? Is this seriously one of the most unintentionally hilarious names ever or is it just me?

Steve, I must know. Do I rate on the list!?

Yes. But I can't tell you where because I haven't thought too hard about it. You're in the company of dudes like Tony (AA), Harry, Soriano, and Griffith though. I've met almost everyone else non-Euro. I bet Marko is hilarious to drink with though.

well, i love the mummies and supercharger despite the no-fi recordings.  i wish their recordings were better...  am i alone in feeling this way?

you should be. it's exactly 50% of their aesthetic.

Disagree, though these are bad examples. Wish Teengenerate (for one) had recorded better.

they had a cleaner recording which was nixed by crypt

Recorded by Kurt Bloch of all people! I'm curious to hear those recordings one day. I also really want to hear the "Get Action" outtakes.

Teengenerate and Supercharger's recordings are flawless for the kind of music they played. Teengenerate's Kids cover 45 has the best production of any punk record I've ever heard. Malto will back me up on this. Can you imagine if Teengenerate has been recorded like the Supersuckers or Supercharger had been recorded like Mr. T Experience? YUCK!

WORLD'S LOUSY TALES FROM BEHIND THE CURTAIN PT. 1: When throwing together World's Lousy volume one Harry contacted some bands using this myspace account, including mine. Our reasons to go with it and trust him despite a prior aversion to comps were:

1) Home Blitz were gonna be on it.
2) He named his label after one of the best songs ever
3) His myspace was called "Sea of Sex."
4) He was planning to start a label along with a move to Hawaii at the same time.

With the above in mind we knew he had to be a hell of a dude. We were right! Harry is in my top five TermBros I've never met/barely know that I wanna drink with.
