Also, I think there's a difference between rock bands and doctors.   That's why you don't see too many "punk rock" oncologists.

seems like the faux hawk is kinda over.  all the chodes around hear sport the real deal now.  the mohawk is no longer the domain of the punk rocker, but rather the jock.  it has become an accessory to take with you to the club, like a gold chain or date rape drugs.

I remember listening to the first OCS stuff and being pretty disappointed being that is was the Coachwhips guy and all.  Kind of just wrote it off.  So, I was completely floored by how good "Master's Bedroom" was.  And the new one.  And everything in between.  So.... I gotta say that this Tyvek lp is hard to defend.  I was looking forward to it so much on the basis of those singles, especially the 2x7".  I just can't get that into the lp.  I have tried very hard.  Anyway,  not gonna write em off just yet.  And i'd still go see em live if they ever wanted to come to my shitty little town.

There was a band around Akron, OH for awhile called Osama bin Awesome.  I don't think they took it any further than that though.  No costumes or anything.  They have since changed their name to Weird Penis.

Not my first record but one of the first I bought myself.

Taking a huge chance at being overlooked by the judges I abandoned my booth at the science fair regionals, held in our mall, to "book" down to Mother's Records and grab the newly released Weird Al Yankovic single "Eat It".

Weird Al Yankovic - s/t was my first.  Totally killer with Another One Rides the Bus, Stop Draggin My Car Around, Ricky and Al's own Mr Frump in the Iron Lung.

The key to The Frost are singles. That LP is meh.

yeah.  i can see that.  if i'd have just heard a couple of the better tracks i would have been excited about it.  i picked up the "Frost Music" LP and it had their "Rock and Roll Music" LP stuck inside the sleeve as well.  A handful of good songs between em.  do you know anything about the 70's band Skid Row?  I picked up their LP on Epic at the same time I got the Frost stuff.

Ike Turner- Blues Roots: pretty cool 70's album of covers and a few originals.  If Ike wasn't such a bastard, he'd be considered one of the true geniuses of modern music.

The Frost- Frost Music: pedestrian 70's Detroit hard rock with occasional moments of righteousness.

Paul Parrish- The Forest of my Mind: Funk psych folk.  kinda Donvan-ish at times.  Love the title track and a couple others.

Mulatu Astatke- Mulatu of Ethiopia: reissued after some of these songs were used in the Broken Flowers soundtrack.  Nice chilled out jazzy vibes.  He just put out a new LP with Heliocentrics that's nice as well.

Graham Parsons- Grievous Angel:  one of those records I can not get rid of, but can never seem to get into either.  Like Big Star #1 Record, I bust this out every six months or so, hoping that it'll be the day i finally "get it." Today was not that day.

and a bunch of early Pere Ubu singles which, of course, rule.

Is anything fucking worse than listening to some tool go on and on about his $8,000 turntable and $12,000 speakers.  this asshole actually just drew me a diagram of his stereo system.  what a joke.

Music Shit / public access music video show
« on: May 09, 2009, 02:49:15 PM »
Does anyone remember the name of a public access music video show that was on in early 90s hosted by a white guy.  It was an hour long show and they played a bunch of borderline punk / indie videos.  I seem to remember them playing a lot of sub pop, touch and go, amrep stuff and the occasional major label band like the breeders or something.  i think  it was based out of Iowa or Wisconsin.  i don't know.  i searched the internets for a long time, but to no avail.  Thought maybe someone on here might know.  Thanks.
