Non-Music Shit / Re: going to shows
« on: May 19, 2009, 06:27:40 AM »
i only really get to see shows that i or a close friend is playing.  anxiety has gotten ahold of me since i last got kicked out of a bar, so seeing live bands is such a treat for me.  fuck 21+ and fuck the guy that cut up my fake id.

Non-Music Shit / Re: Anyone from Bloomington, Indiana?
« on: May 06, 2009, 05:15:27 AM »
Yeah, just released from some Italian label "Monk"....I don't have the track list with me right now (records at my apt) but it was all recorded in 1929 in Indiana I guess, can't remember the town.  Its alot of the same tracks that are released on every other Charley Patton release but it's been remastered and sounds WAY better than whatever I ripped off soulseek a couple years ago.

anyone involved in drugs would like this record. **

his favourite band PHISH This record was on, he  said it was "actually pretty good"...

their music would do really well at raves

All of these points add up unavoidably to "Everyone involved in writing, recording, releasing or selling this record should be killed violently", sorry.

The point was that it appeals to people who have different tastes in music...but yeah, I'm pretty obsessed with the record.

If something appeals to hippies and ravers, it's dogshit.

Haley's assessment of the record is pretty spot on.  Be content with being wrong on this one, Simon.

Haley, you should write about music more often.

Awh thanks Jared!  But I've got thousands of records I need to hear before I'm confident enough to do that.  I'll add it to the list of "Things to be able to do by the time I'm 25" : Accurately review music.

Alright, 5 reasons why the Fabulous Diamonds S/T is better than other current releases:

Starting from point 5:

5. The cover artwork is fucking sick

4. The whole album comes off as really classy without falling into some aesthetic

3. The choice of instrumentals are for the most part acoustic/non-electric, to me, it gives it that organic/timeless feel to it.  So many bands today are incorporating synth/pre-programmed sounds etc. that i've had this really weird paranoia that this industry in music is eventually going to rely on computers like everything else in the world.
2.  Their use of tape/delay is fucking brilliant.  This album is given a whole new element by correctly utilizing effects, rather than hiding/masking the music, which is another thing I feel alot of bands/records today are guilty of.
1.  I think that this is a universal-drug record.  I firmly believe that played at the correct volume, in a large gathering of people with different musical tastes and background, anyone involved in drugs would like this record. **

Right after I came up with this whole theory in my head, my roommate came home, sat down, and started reading some book about his favourite band PHISH (yeah, i know).  This record was on, he asked who it was, and said it was "weird, but actually pretty good"... THEORY CONFIRMED.

But I'll probably reread and delete this in the next couple days...

And I used to work with this guy from Australia, and I let him listen to both The Fabulous Diamonds and NOTV, he told me that their music would do really well at raves, I guess the big rave scene in Australia is kinda cool?

Fabulous Diamonds S/T --- I've convinced myself that this is probably the best band of today, I am obsessed with this record!  I even made a "5 reasons why this record is better than all these other records" list...
