Your O's wanna take Pooholes' contract off my Angels hands? Thanks!

Haha I always call him Poopholes.  Surprised at how well the Brewers are doing.  Pretty cool to see this young team doing good.  Granted the NL Central is shiting the bed right now.  Doubt the Brewers stick around but I'll take it if they do.  Fuck the Cards and Cubs!

That Malignus Youth record is pretty incredible; I was always amazed at the speed and the harmony, and hearing it was mastered too fast somewhat deflates that balloon. But yeah, absolutely singular music and I'd like to hear it again as it's been many years.

Around the same time I heard that, I also heard the Swedish band Raped Teenagers - the only similarity is the speed and melodicism but for some reason I always grouped those two together.

If you like Raped Teenagers check out their current band, the EXCELLENT Pusrad. You might also like Sun Children Sun as far as thing moderne go.

Pusrad is officially done but rips nonetheless.  The drummer has a new synth punk band now.  I think he places everything.  https://isotopesoap.bandcamp.com/  Some of the early songs were Pusrad songs that never were recorded.

There was a weird fat old hippy who used to run a junk shop/fire trap near Bullseye. I hope he is still kicking but dude was a slob and this was 10 years ago. He might have heart attacked.

Yeah! Flipville Records.  That place was cool.  Got a fair amount of decent stuff from that place.  Guy would always give you a deal if you bought a few records.  Had to look it up but he died of cancer in 2010.

Sorry for disparaging the dead. Yes, his store was hazard... but it was also cool. Haskels records sitting willy nilly on a pile of 45s? Yes!

Earwax in Milwaukee was awesome, then they sold it to a metal guy and it was mediocre.

Is Earwax Madison still around? What else does Madtown got going on?

As far as I know Earwax is still going.  For awhile Madison had a pretty cool venue/indoor skate bowl run by the guitarist/singer from SFN, Graem.  Maybe he didnt run it but I know he booked shows there.  That's about all I know/remember about Madtown.  Their punk scene always seemed to suck but almost every show there had a keg which for whatever reason never happened in Milwaukee.

I'm staying at a hotel right by Marquette.  I really only have the afternoon that I get in and I'm getting around via Lyft, so distance is a factor.

Then Exclusive and Bullseye might be your best bet.  Just looked and they are less than a half mile from each other.  So, you could use Lyft to get to one and walk to the other.  Or only go to Acme.  From checking google maps the mileage is about equal to one or the other.  Your call though.

I'd say there is about 3 shops worth hitting.  2 are on Milwaukee's east side and the other is in Bay View.  Exclusive Company on Brady St and Bullseye Records on Irving Pl. are the east side shops.  Acme Records is on Kinnickinnic Ave in Bay View.  Exclusive is a WI chain.  Lots of new records and the last time I was there, a pretty big used selection.  Bullseye is kinda pricey if I remember correctly but a good mix of new and used.  Acme is pretty new.  Was only there once but found JFA's first LP and a weird foreign pressing of In God We Trust for good prices.  Acme might be your best bet for punk.  But all three would probably have something good.

Where are you staying?  I'm assuming Acme is the furthest from where you'd be but if you have a car or someone to drive you it would probably be worth it.

edit:  Forgot about Rush-Mor Records.  Their vinyl selection is really starting to grow.  Thats on Kinnickinnic too.  A lot of punk and the owner is a pretty rad guy.  Drummed in some punk/hc back in the day.  Now drums for a band called Burning Sons.

Dont think many Milwaukee folks post here much anymore.  I no longer live there but it was home for about 11 years.  Moved in 2011 or so. DIY scene is pretty decent.  Not a lot of house shows anymore.  One house called Ground Zero has been hosting shows for what seems like 10 years.  There is about 3 bars that do a lot of punk and hardcore shows.  All in the riverwest neighborhood.  I'd say thats where most of the "punks" and artists live.

Food is pretty typical midwestern stuff.  The south side of Milwaukee has a pretty big mexican population, so the majority of the mexican food places are down there.

I'd say the one thing that kinda sucks and doesnt make sense is that a lot of touring bands skip Milwaukee.  Chicago is only 1.5 hours away, so its not a bad drive down there but sucks bands wont make the drive up.

If you got anymore questions feel free to ask.  A lot has changed since I moved but I'm still in contact with a lot of my friends down there.

Hopefully woz75 will comment on this, now that it's in the pop punk section.  That guy knows tiers.

Let's make this easy. 95% of the stuff posted in the Hardcore 2017/16/15/14/13/12/11/10 thread is all 4th tier dollar bin garbage.  I'll let you guys decide what the rest of the 5% is.

live albums always better than studio albums in my book
fuck "producing" that shit is lame
slapshot's "tier" varys greatly depending on what circles you hang in.

LSR is by far the worst sounding HD record.  The set rips no doubt but its just a blur of noise.  If it was recorded better it would have better lasting value.
