Non-Music Shit / Re: The Eric Lastname Thread

Troy looks like every famous black person. Eric Lastname, is there a place where it's always autumn? Because I'd move there. Would you? We could hang out and stuff.

If none of us on this board have a copy of either, who the fuck has them?

I have every piece of vinyl the A-Frames have done. I think Richard does, too. Not sure about anyone else. There really should be an A-Frames singles comp on CD, though.

(edited - boring cost analysis on LPs that no one needs to read)

Scott, what's your take on 5 consecutive little balls of poop vs. 1 large loaf?

Wish Copenhagen had bars like that...

Really? From the time I was a little kid until a few nights ago in a bar this kind of music is absolutely unavoidable where I live. Quite possibly the most popular bar music, period, next to "oldies" (50s & 60s) and "club" (horrible programmed dance music). I've heard Jailbreak and Iron Man and Toys in the Attic so many times that they have zero impact on me. It may as well be dogs singing "Happy Birthday." Every single male in my high school listened to classic metal - I was the only one who'd listen to punk, or really anything beyond AC/DC or Motley Crue or Slayer or Led Zep. By "only," I mean 100%. It's probably that way in every rural area of America, though rap has taken over the farms in the meantime, from what I hear. So you can see why some of us are sick of that shit, or have no need to play it at home.

I'd guess Richard Adventure (who makes these calls) would consider Phil a Total Fucking Rocker and a dude. More rocker, I'd think. Richard?

"Fighting" is a great song.

I used to think that, and then some of their stuff just clicked. Even my favorite "cock rock" bands, if AC/DC and Motorhead are "cock rock" bands, get very little play around my house. Meaning, I like and appreciate Thin Lizzy, AC/DC, Motorhead, Black Sabbath, etc., but I rarely play that shit, partly because I've heard enough of most of those bands for a lifetime and I have a short attention span, and partly because I don't like metal/hard rock very much. So if any of those bands are playing at a bar or a party I'm very pleased, but you won't find my spinning BOC very often, or Aerosmith ever.

It costs over 2 grand to press a full length - you got that sitting around and shit? People slept on that first record for quite a while, and it's not Scott's fault that it took you dummies so long to catch on. Once it's out of print, it's a sizable investment to reprint and then you don't even know if people are clamouring for 147 of the 500 you're repressing or 479 (you may make money or you may take a bath). The average label-type is losing money overall or breaking even and the only thing that keeps him or her going (little is more thankless than "underground label head") is The New Project(s). Blowing $2,000 on an old record that sold out and is easily available on CD is nowhere near as attractive as a classic reissue ep, a new band 7" and an expensive dinner or two.

I watched some British movie about a severely obsessive-compulsive man with Tourettes whose life basically disintegrates for 90 minutes. It was pretty damn funny, sorta touching at times. Forget the name. Also been watching Canadia's own "Trailer Park Boys," also funny but not that touching, except when Bubbles got his own place.

nothing that I know of in Austria.

I have a pretty great Austrian KBD-type record (called something in, I presume, Austrian) that includes bands like Dirt Shit, who I'm sure you are aware of, and if not, you really should be. Some band named Chaos or Kaos or something does one of my favorite poppy-punky numbers of the time period ("Get Out of My Pocket").

What's yer take on my having no idea who Hillary Duff is?

Absolutely - you have Richard and Big Pants. Richard doesn't go out too often, and Big Pants has been a near-total suck ever since he broke up with Rhonda over a year ago. That leaves....nobody!

Paul - nothing happens in Appleton, and no one lives there! I thought we covered that before! Josh drives up to GB all the time, though he'd have to drive down to work if he moved to GB. If he lived in GB he wouldn't have to worry about driving 35 miles drunk after a show or practice or whatever event. There are several people he's been playing with or may play with in GB (Jamie King & Evolutions stuff, 2-piece with Jordan, Me & Shana, etc.), and we tried Appleton with the 2 people into decent music, and it didn't work. I always felt bad for him or Big Pants driving up to see a show on a Tuesday night, and heading back loaded - I can sneak 5 minutes on backroads and be in bed.

How can people come together against community?

I think there are areas with people who make it conducive to good music and good times. I don't have any pride about the rocks that make up Rib Mountain or the water in Lake Michigan or the evergreen treeline or even the weather (though that does affect mass-perception of reality), but I can say I'm proud of Timebomb Tom and Paul Reject and Casey Buhr and Mike Zink and Tab Man and Apnea and KeithV and dozens of other people for making great music out of absolutely no (good) tradition. Those people rule, and they came together and oftentimes still come together in the belief that rock 'n roll is religion and a living language and important and fun and pliable and something to research and something to amaze yourself with and something to amaze other people with and all that. There was an enormous group of smart and creative people who popped up all of a sudden and have populated the state (from humble beginnings) and give me (and Timebomb Tom and all kinds of older people) hope that this stuff matters and is meaningful and alive. So yeah, I'm proud of what's happened in Eastern Wisconsin the last 10 years, because I'm proud of the people involved.

I like local sports teams. I like sports, so I picked the teams closest to me to follow - makes sense. I'm amazed at everyone drooling over the soul food shit on the Goner board - BBQ is way better down there than here, but BBQ beef and greens and cole slaw and beans are way down my personal list of favorites. I'd rather have a butter burger and fried cheese curds, or a Jake's pizza and a Point. There's local tradition, and you either hate it and want to get the fuck away from it, or you revel in it. I like where I live. If I didn't, I'd move. You hate everywhere you live, for the most part. I feel that a lot of this is how happy a person is with himself, honestly. Morons who hate people from X State across the board are like people who hate niggers or homos or girls or football players or retards or midgets just because of where they reside or their basic genetic code. It's dumb. But there isn't anything wrong with enjoying where you live, and being interested in the history and culture, is there?

The first Boston record had good buried somewhere, I dunno! I mean, it's the opposite of what I consider good music, but if someone's playing it I'll sing along and shit! I think one of the reasons I don't like the Raspberries like everyone else around here is that they sorta sound like Boston to me! Maybe I shouldn't think of them as a "serious" band? Horseshit Badger Dick Blowers rule, but the Laser Tag Helmets ep on Mutant Pop made them obsolete (as did the Obsoletes).

I don't really like drinking anymore! I think I had my lifetime fill or something. Beer tastes really good (if it's good beer), but I usually just want one or two. Wine's alright (if it's dry and red), whiskey's good for getting drunk and angry.

I think .38 Special are funny and all, but I don't actually like them or anything. Same with the first Boston record and Hall & Oats & whatever - it's so over-the-top that it's funny. I'll give you the fact that some of that stuff has more actual personality than a bucket full of generic Euro-garage, but that's about it. I don't really want to listen to either.

I don't care for metal, beyond the obvious best bands and some oddities. I don't, by extension, like "cock rock." It's not a crime, but in many cases it really should be.
