Snapped up wax by The Grateful Dead, Doors, Animals, Todd Rungren & Utopia, Third Power, Metal Urban, Husker Du, The Move, Turtles, Ravi Shankar, Idle Race, "Dr. Who" soundtracks and that "Bingo Masters At The Witch Trials" LP by The Fall.

I love Record Store Day.

Wowzerz a real live move rekerd and a dead lp dangszoom!

Agreed on Saul - a very good show that's a marvel more for the seemless craft than anything else, really. I like it, but it doesn't blow me away...though the last episode, with Chuck in the hospital was fairly intense and claustrophobic. Probably the best episode of the season. Chuck having a tape recorder running under a pillow was too easy to predict for a show that's usually better at keeping future moves mysterious.

I haven't checked, but I can pretty much guarantee that Homicide is on Pirate Bay or KAT. I will get to it....some day.

Agreed that the best "Baskets" characters were Martha and Louie. And speaking of Louis...CK...the show "Louie" was basically an art project/student film project, but it was better, had a likeable (in the antihero sense much of the time) central character, (generally) real-life believable set-ups and situations, and so on. "Baskets" was fluff, but it was definitely funny at times, mostly at the beginning of the run.

"Early country" can mean a giant-ass variety of things spanning a multitude of decades. Maybe narrow down what you already dig and I can throw some stuff at the wall? It's sorta like saying you enjoy "early rock," except that's actually a smaller pool.

I've always been meaning to get around to Homicide, but never picked it up. I figure it has to be good, but I generally avoid "cop shows" despite loving the Wire etc.

Dan, are you still in MKE? If so, I have something for you (on the country tip). Otherwise, I can still probably get something to ya....eventually.

Regardless it's 'RSD' status, everyone touting the Cambodian Cassette Archives is correct, what a great goddamn collection (still), great to have on vinyl, even as the bleakness of its provenance recedes some.

Seems to me that this (and many other actual-quality releases) would have come out regardless of RSD. If it helps stores, great, but for me personally I'd rather be anywhere else on RSD than a RS. However, a good % of owners seem to hate it, too.

really enjoyed Baskets

Thought it shot its wad pretty quickly - it's a thin premise. But enjoyed it a lot for a bit, especially Louie Anderson (truly hilarious), the perfect schlub Martha, and the old cowboy boss dude. Still not a Galifianakis fan, but the writing/jokes are funny in general, so he deserves kudos for that portion.

The puzzling thing is how some were rating it higher than Louie (sorry - not even close) and going on and on about how it's not so much a comedy PER SAAAY and it's very dark and etc., when it's less dark/more absurd overall than Louie and is paced similarly/and is just as obviously jokey as Louie post-first season. I mean, it's a pathos/humor sad clown/regular clown set-up that ties the plot to the main character. I can't imagine there will be a second season, but I hope this leads to more Louie (both) work ASAP.

Regardless, man, the first few episodes were funny as fuck. Still haven't finished the last two, but plan on it eventually.

I always took the Minor Threat angle as "be iconoclasts, just like us!" But...it ended up being another religion. Has to be disappointing to all involved. Makes a body wanna quit and join up with the Meatmen....

Gray Matter and Rites of Spring were the only Dischord bands I ever liked beyond the OG hardcore ones back in the day. Both still have their moments. Everything else sounded like indie rock or someshit to me.

Where in America does winter last 8 months, outside northern and interior Alaska?

I'd say you are right if the definition of america use in here is this one: "A country that claims the name of an entire continent to itself alone for no compelling reason."

otherwise plenty of place have 8 months winter and considering the fact that there is still almost 3 meters of snow right in front of my place at this very moment, i have no choice to conclude that it will soon turn into a 8 month winter place too...

I see you pulled a word-for-word urban dictionary "definition" there. I often forget that English is a second/third or whatever language for you, but in the case of this thread, it was obvious the OP was going for the colloquial version via options offered and context and so on. I checked the average temps for Quebec City, and while it's definitely cold, you're exaggerating quite a bit. If we're including Canada, I'd do Montreal in a heartbeat - love that city. I feel like Vancouver would do me just fine as well. Toronto seems like a too-scrubbed version of Chicago, and isn't my bag. So for Canada, probably Montreal. Or Vancouver. Feel like I might like Halifax, too.

Southwestern weather would be hell-ish for me, blazing non-stop heat...but better than the deep south where you add painful humidity. I'm just a damn polar bear, I guess.

And I like "rust belt" cities like Buffalo and Chicago and Milwaukee and Detroit and Cleveland and so on - lots of "city" shit to do without as much irritating pretention.
