May be coming back in 2009!

No way they go back into their original location, so bets on where they end up now.

I'm thinking somewhere near Van Ness/Polk area.

So far I have no problem at all with the league awards. Pujols is a great pick, Lincecum was a pleasantly intelligent pick and they called the rookie race correctly too.

AL MVP is a complete tossup, who the fuck should get it. The guy that was running away with it in my humble opinion was Ian Kinsler til that hernia knocked him out for the last month, then it was between Hamilton or Quentin but they got cold and hurt. None of the division champs had an obvious stud, they were all pretty balanced out, so Hamilton by default? He was a legit triple crown threat at the All Star break...

According to the Bill James statistical methodology, your AL MVP is: Joe Mauer!

Every collection has to have THAT Voice of the Xtabay LP, it's the one weirdo record every punker has owned at some point.

Hopefully some of those 1600 are responsible for tracking down use of the word 'shit' in listings.

Used Records For Sale/Auctions/Wantlists / More new HELPFUL ebay rules
« on: August 20, 2008, 08:49:49 PM »
Everyone get the fun email with the new changes?

No more money orders, paypal only from now on. Whatever, I was at 99% paypal anyway.

BUT

New maximum shipping costs. You will not be allowed to charge more than $4 to ship a record. This has to be a typo, hullo, Priority Mail, ever hear of it? It costs about $7.50 to ship an LP from one coast to another, and a mailer costs another buck. And did you know that if you ship say 50 records to someone, the most you can ask for is $15 for freight? It says at the bottom of the chart that these prices will be 'subject to change', hoo boy, you better believe that. Hello, international freight charges anyone, hello? This has to be a mistake.

I don't like getting gouged on shipping, no one does, but this chart is complete and utter nonsense. They are essentially asking individuals to eat shipping costs ala Amazon. I'd be glad to, just get George Soros and Halliburton to underwrite my shipping costs and I'm good.

This is one shit storm they just brought unto themselves.

Non-Music Shit / Dumb and Poor?
« on: August 15, 2008, 02:45:19 PM »
That was the tagline for a message in my spam filer. Like, who the hell would click on that fucking thing, I guess someone who felt that accurately assessed them. You are supposed to DENY that if you truly are stupid and poor, everyone knows the real working class has zero use for irony.

So, I opened it up and it was just an opportunity to buy an "ebay success kit".

Spam, you let me down.

Music Shit / The KBD Gold Standard
« on: July 14, 2008, 11:31:24 AM »
Which records are the gold standards in the KBD field, the records that are close to the perfect 10s (NM minus) of their type that are used as points of comparison for other records of their, uh, "type"? How about:

Mentally Ill "Gacy's Place" I would put forward the argument that this is the quintessential American KBD EP of the PUNK rock variety. It's got three tracks (so not just a mere two-songer), all of which are lyrically obscene, slathered in the most ungodly fuzz guitar, with a vocalist gibbering away like he jus' don't care. It even has an even rarer-er sleeve edition to keep people unhappy. The only strike against it is that it is somewhat findable.

What about in these sub-KBD genres:

Powerpop
Synth punk
Punk 'n Roll
Folk-punk
Proto-hardcore
Euro punker (they are so different from the American stuff)
Proto-punk (can't be before 1975)
Art punk
Bar band recast as punk for one single

My votes, respectively:

Seizure
Rock Bottom & the Spys
Dogs
Injections
Middle Class
Helmettes or Nasal Boys, torn
Mike Rep
The Five
Strychnine

Ego Summit thread has birthed:

Vinyl records from the 90s (or so) that are still flopping around for $5-8 that people are taking for granted in this era of brand new $20 records. Name 'em. I'll start...

Great Plains 'Colorized'

the Frenchie Estrus/Dionysus titles: Splash Four (esp the 10"ers), Thundercrack, TV Killers.

Sunshine 'Velvet Suicide'

Music Shit / Who's Up for A Reunion Tour?
« on: June 16, 2008, 10:07:23 AM »
When thinking of indie-type bands that SHOULD (not merely COULD) do a short reunion tour (not a single show, but the typical 10-city, two week tour) that would be supremely wig-lifting, I will nominate:

Pooh Sticks (from another thread)

Halo of Flies

Pussy Galore

Tall Dwarfs

Used Records For Sale/Auctions/Wantlists / Vivian Girls new LP
« on: June 12, 2008, 08:48:56 AM »
They made 500 of them two weeks ago and yet no one seems to actually have one, how did that happen? I want one and I will pay a small premium to anyone who picks one up off the local pile and will send it to me. Jeez lou-eez, just want an opportunity to spill a little seed in print...
