Drag City has always had interesting records over the years, nothing from new bands for me for maybe a decade though. In the 90s they were up there with the most useful indie labels like Matador or Merge or K or Sub Pop or Slumberland, and their prices were the same as everyone else's: 7.99 for a Royal Trux LP at retail in 1994.
I can't believe there's any juice left in the Death rag, but man they are squeeeezing that thing to, uh, death.
Having a smart ass marketing approach has been totally indie standard since the early 90s, it's the only way these communists can reconcile their profit-seeking modus operandi, and the mutual contempt bandied by consumer and exploiter is the only thing that makes makes the society of the spectacle palatable, right? "Yeah, please make the check out to Mr. fuck faced fucker, you suck and so do weeeeeee!"
