Now comes the beeg off season question: do the Giants give Sandoval 90 fucking million? Urgh.

It's so funny how sports anchors are basically resigning themselves to the thought of Panda leaving. "Sadly, he becomes a free agent this year, so this is probably his last World Series with the Giants."

I heard that a few times, especially from local anchors on KTVU

He apparently wants "Pence's contract" so 5 years and 85-90 million or so. He's actually the best pure 3B free agent out there, unless Hanley would agree to move off SS to 3B, so he's timed it well coming off a .279/16HR season. The Giants have existing contracts kicking into big elevator years for Posey, Bumgarner, Cain and Pence. They can't afford Sandoval unless ownership green-lights a budget up north of $160M. This presumes they don't try to keep Morse, either, who will want 2yr-20M I'm thinking. He did drive in what turned out to be the WS-winning run...Sabean might let Panda walk and try his luck in the bargain bin with someone like Ty Wigginton or Chase Headley on a show-me one year deal.

With Peavy and Vogelsong sure to depart, the Giants will open 2015 with a Bumgarner-Cain-Hudson-Petit rotation and give a AAA guy a shot, or a one-year deal to a guy like Bret Anderson or Scott Feldman. Lincecum will not start for the Giants in 2015.

Madison Bumgarner finishes off the greatest pitching run in postseason history. And Baseball America goes to their collective beds and jerks onto their chosen team's 2014 Spring Training program. No one seems to care about the World Series anymore. And ESPN is just a Connecticut bitch, useless. The Royals were the most interesting team to face the Giants yet, if it had been any other NL team outside of the Pirates I would have been pulling for the Royals.

Now comes the beeg off season question: do the Giants give Sandoval 90 fucking million? Urgh.

San Francisco has its Old Money in town that still owns plenty of landmarks and golf courses and pretty 1920s office towers with sandstone exteriors, etc, but all the recent development is run by a consortium of the usual big banks like BOA and Wells Fargo and private investment firms, some of them of very recent vintage, that are channeling a ton of fleeing Asian and Euro capital into real estate. The same investment firms are also keeping the insane wage spirals going in the high tech and financial sectors, always panting for the biggest (theoretical) potential % of return.

The tipping point will be the same thing that popped the last bubble: you eventually run out of buyers, at which point the Wolf-of-Wall-St.-style speculators who are doing everything on credit with no money down start collapsing or vanishing, and then there is a general "smart money" stampede for the exits and everyone runs back into government bonds. Employment collapses and it's all Obama's fault.

It could all be averted with some pretty innocuous tweaks of the tax code and some teeth in the financial regulations. Which is only possible when corporate money is removed from politics. I think that is the issue of our age: Get corporate/financial money out of the election system/DC and the polls that have 75% of the American people endorsing shit that could come out of Noam Chomsky's mouth tomorrow will be able to find some representation in DC.

The only positive benefit on the societal level will be that a ton of inner city condos/apartments might be left behind when the money flood retreats, instead of more shitty teardown tract housing out in the middle of fucking cow-patty-nowhere.

The problem is there is still too much investment capital circulating in virtual-Swiss mattresses, and if markets continue to contract due to falling demand (because their capital is not going into wages or jobs) then the international investment class will continue to stampede into the "safe haven" of real estate located in major USA cities. The thinking is similar to the gold bugs, tangible assets on the ground are better than bit coins or bonds or stocks.

pretty much all crap, beside a couple OK tunes and one real goodie

Yeah, just stay away from the Elvis-copying shite, and then his Tom Jones/Neil Diamond-copying shite.

I think this record has enjoyable moments if you can get it for under $15 or so in the USA:

World Series Prediction

SF over KC in 6

I don't think the Orioles can keep up with the speed and timely hitting of KC....and I think Baltimore is over matched in the pitching category. The Cardinals have a weak lineup and possibly injured pitchers. I think the NLCS will be a short series. Maybe 5 games. Maybe 4

I agree, the Cards are a bit staggering right now, I was pretty surprised they skulled the Dodgers. G's should dismiss them in 5.

KC's game could give the Giants a serious challenge, because they also play in a home park similar to SF's (forget about HR) and don't wait around for the 3-run bomb to bail them out. They have waaaay more speed than the Giants, but the G's have a deeper rotation to keep runners off the bases and better elite hitters, and they've also been here before, which does matter. If the Orioles win, Giants spank them in 5. If the Royals win, G's in 7.

You've inspired me to pull this sucker out again, the first UK DIY record I paid real money for ($55 or sumthin') back in the 90s. It's actually better than the Desperate Bicycles LP. If The Fall were capable of a good-natured record at that time, it would've sounded like this.

Last night was the A's entire season condensed into a single game. Rolling early, smashing shit up, then the late fade.

I know Vinnie is contemptuous of the starter the Pirates are running out there but he's one of the hottest starters in the NL. It's gonna be a tough game, but if the Giants can scratch out a lead into the 7th I like their bullpen chances better than P-burgh's.

I used to buy records at Epicenter Zone off a "relatively together" junkie who was slowly parting out his own collection in order to cop. He had a job as a chef at a restaurant, paid rent etc. But his records were being converted into heroin about 10 discs at a time, and he had started collecting in '81. Lots of standards-quality UK/USA early 80s stuff dribbling out until he suddenly disappeared, I heard his family intervened and convinced him to move back home, which was weird since he was in his mid-30s by then. Sometimes, all you have to do is get yourself away from all the dealers/associates, annnnd Hawaii is a pretty ideal place to detox.
