Yeah, bummed I didn't make it down to Tassie. Sounds awesome by all accounts and Drunk Elk is definitely one of the better things to come out of anywhere in the past ten years. Seems like they got a lot of good music down there. Personally my favorite places in Australia were Brisbane and Perth, both of which seemed kinda isolated and shit.

I was bummed you didn't make it down here too! I picked up that Drunk Elk tape recently from the Lakes guy - fantastic stuff. That one kind of came out of the blue or at least for me as they don't play too often, or maybe I just keep missing them. Well, for anyone who's interested here's a few other Tassie bands you might like:

The Native Cats (www.myspace.com/thenativecats)
Russian Prison Sytem (www.myspace.com/russianprisonsystem)
Ivy St. (www.myspace.com/ivyst)
Que (www.myspace.com/quexperience)

Shit, I got nothing but the mp3s too, not even the LP! Have these been sent out as yet cos I thought Shattered were waiting on those couple of 7inchers before they sent out everything at once.

I've only ever been there once. It just seemed pretty shitty, like a small town with nothing to do except it's an entire state. But besides that Tasmania has always been Australia's whipping boy. There's nothing wrong with Tasmania it's just easy to make fun of.

Yes, this is true - every place has its half breed scapegoat and films like Dying Breed don't do anthing to shake that image. Small city, but shitty seems a bit harsh - I guess it helps to have some active outoor interests too. Music wise it's been a lot more vibrant of late and we've punched above our weight over the years especially considering the population. Anyways, I'm going back to cooking road kill, listening to the Vivian Girls (termbo turncoats) and sleeping with my sister.

Don't go to Tasmania.

Shit, I just saw this. So, what's your (and Jaguar Ride's) beef with Tassie? Even the Vivian Girls were excted about playing down here. Well, they were excited about seeing a Tassie devil anyway!

Music Shit / Re: The Mantles + Fresh & Onlys

Just ordered both of these. That first Fresh and Onlys album was fantastic as was the recent tape, and not that you can compare the band with the solo efforts, but the Tim Cohen LP really is something else - one of my all time fave releases so far this year.

Music Shit / Re: ANOTHER TAPE TRADING CLUB!!!!
« on: October 01, 2009, 07:38:10 PM »
October's list just went out, so check your emails. Dave and Erik are two new late-comers so regular monthly traders, get in touch with them if you want to trade tapes (I included their details).

Dave, I got your tape in the mail today, so many thanks - haven't had a chance to play it yet, but nice circa early Thrasher/Powell Peralta cover!

Are you sending these to anyone outside the US/Canada, and if so how much for a copy each of the Wicked Awsomes and the Red Mass LPs to Australia?

It's great to see so many Australian bands getting released through Night-People.

Now we just need to get Wet Hair down here!

Yes please. Some one make it so.

Okay, this month's email is sent - PM me if you didn't get it for any reason. Milos, I sent you another email too! Hope everyone's caught up by now and if not then get your tapes out or get in touch if you've forgotten who you were supposed to send your tape to for July/August.

I also included Erin's details in case anyone wants to trade cassettes with her. Mine's on its way to you already Erin.

Anyone else on here, if you're interested in swapping tapes with the other traders in this club then lemme know and I'll send your details out with next month's email. This club's already a couple of months in, but any late-comers are welcome for a one off swap, that is if any of the other traders are interested - I'll trade with ya.

there's a copy still at streetlight in santa cruz (no idea where you are).  also, i read that they're repressing.

Well, no where near Santa Cruz (I'm in Australia), but thanks for the info. I might wait for the repress in that case.

So, anyone know where you can still get that Grass Widows 12" on Make a Mess?

Also, the Varlet Tarsod half of the subject at hand is really fucking good.

I agree, I especially love the Varlet Tarsod side and it's a nice big long player too.
In this batch the Caethua side is probably my fave though. Fans of Tamaryn and that ilk would not be dissapointed.
Most of all, these just look so fucking nice - beautiful design and very swish packaging.

Still waiting in Australia...but that's kinda understandable

I'm in Australia too, but I got mine last week. Oh, and the packaging was top notch by the way, although it is winter and non-warpable temperatures at the moment.
