Not exactly the same, but what happen to me though was the house went up for auction without me knowing and the house was bought. I had a guy come to my door who told me he was the new owner and I had to be out of the house in 3 days. I live in Texas so I know that to be put out of your house a judge actually has to rule against you and tell you to leave. So I stayed put. The guy was persistent but I didn't budge. I didn't pay rent and lived in the house for another 9 months rent free. As the new owner is telling me to leave the old owner is asking for rent. I guess in Texas as an owner of a property you have the chance to get your house back even if it's been bought by someone else in foreclosure, and that's what he did. If you buy a house in Texas in a foreclosure auction you are not allowed to do anything but rent the property out for a year or something strange like that to allow the previous owner a chance to get his house back.
I was advised by a real estate lawyer not to pay anyone anything as it was illegal for the old owner to collect rent on a house he didn't "technically" own anymore, and the new landlord also didn't actually hold the deed yet. It was a really bizarre situation.
As long as they still own the house keep paying your rent to avoid any problems.

Or you can use Absinthe if your a baller. Eitherway good times.
