The first review of The Village Idiot LP is here:
"If Lee Van Cleef and Charles Bukowski had ever made an album together it'd probably sound a bit like this piece of wax... or maybe it's just verbal diarrhea on my part. Anyhoo, as the recent split single (with Darklands, also on Rabalder Records) and two previous albums The Village Idiot continue their dusty voyage into the dark, sinister and twangy landscape where rattlesnakes, despair, mad men and bad liquor roam.
There seems to be a trend of mixing 'americana' with Danish lyrics at the moment, but Helsing?r's The Village Idiot are keeping it old school as their influences, or maybe Kenni just doesn't give a fuck. He still holler as if his life depended on it, the little fucker means it! For real. The 11 songs are graced with his warm yet desperate voice and perfectly backed by Theis (also in Darklands), Daniel (from Kv?rn and Knivknep), Jakob and Mary on violin. And the quality of the material is the best yet from The Village Idiot, more memorable and haunting, yeah even catchier and beautiful than before. Goosebumps and brass knuckles all wrapped in superior country folk blues from heaven...and hell.
Listen up, if you act fast you'll also get a dvd of the awesome "Stones Of Hate" music video as I did when I got the vinyl LP in Repo Man Records. I've previously discribed the video as a gothic meeting between Shakespeare (it was shot around Hamlet's Kronborg by Emil from Kv?rn) and "Texas Chainsaw Massacre". 2009 is still young, but already a minor Danish masterpiece has seen the light of day, so grab a copy of "Prima Materia", you won't regret it. I promise. Now go see The Village Idiot at some bar or club... Lee Van Cleef and Charles Bukowski would. By the way, excellent cover painting by Sascha Altsh?ler.
