First two Mark Lindsay solo records, from a Goodwill in his hometown of Eugene Oregon, for $1.98

So the Cocteau Twins are pretty much a more credible, not-watered-down version of The Cranberries?

Music Shit / Re: The Worst Band You've Ever Seen

this Kevin Costner talk reminds me about how I once saw Billy Bob Thornton's band in 2002-ish.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7xlc0T12Imw

The bill was Elvis Costello and the Imposters at the Chicago Theatre with opening act listed as "The Unknowns" or something like that. Then the lights went up and people starting freaking out. I didn't recognize the singer guy until I heard "Smokin' In Bed", which my record-store-employee roommates had brought home as a promo single and presented for ridicule a couple months prior.

not "worst band ever" really but more "most boring band ever". to reference earlier topics in this thread, I once saw Robin Zander join the Goo Goo Dolls for an encore cover of "Surrender". they were opening for Bush.

if there was one more musical act that you could add to the equation of this project, who would you choose?

I really liked THE EDGE's parts from that movie with Jack. He could twiddle the knobs on some rack fx, whole new dimension

Music Shit / Re: what records did you "borrow" from your parents?

There were Beatles, Zappa and Black Oak Arkansas records.

I was only interested in my dad's copies of The Who Sell Out and Inna-Gadda-Da-Vita, which my cat puked all over. Thanks, cat.

Another memory: Grandpa died around 1992 and we took his 1000+ LP collection of rare jazz and latin to Half Price Books. $45 for the lot.

Or when musician-who-sucks immediately approaches you after a gig and offers your band a show...with their shitty band.

old, old story from one of my former bandmates: she was hanging around backstage before a Dando solo gig, talking to a friend in the opening band, when she lit a joint. Dando's handler shoots across the room in a fit, shouting "What are you doing? Don't you know there's a former drug addict in the room?!?"

"Hey Billy, for your 15th birthday we are gonna take you to the music store and you can buy a guitar from Kevin Seconds!" "Who?" Precisely.

the most scandalous thing I ever heard about Calvin was about him inviting himself into the bed of his female host. he was crashing there after the show, as the story goes, and figured some lovin' was implied due to his being Calvin and her being on the college music committee.

total hipster infestation in the house, though, so take it w/ a grain of salt.

It's pretty fuckin obvious he's making fun of that shit.

But it's too obvious. It's a groaner. Have humorists previously determined that yuppies / buppies / hippies enjoy their hybrids? Yes. So I'll go one step further and assume that it's designed to make said middle-agers laugh at themselves. Guh.

"driving along in my hybrid car" URRRGH! painful.

I saw them do Are We Not Men? in seattle last fall and the crowd and their allotted 2.5 children per couple (in tow) would have eaten that yuppie stuff up with a spoon.

it's disappointing to hear the new studio stuff after how great the old shit sounded live.

the ONE thing (not money) that has kept me from replacing the cassette deck in the car with a USB BLOOTOOF IPOD READY deck is that a friend sent me a shitload of his old tapes. big star, daniel johnson, excommunicated "later" flying burrito bros records, etc. it's mildly amusing to keep buying tapes for the stupid thing.

really, I expected the car to die five years ago so I was loathe to spend money on frivolities like stereo systems, but holy shit, it's 2010 and my 16 year old vehicle still has a working tape deck.

I recently put minimum bids in on a couple of Gibson Bros albums on ebay, only to learn on delivery that I'd drunkenly purchased fucking sealed 1980s Homestead cassettes. motherfuck! I thought I was just giving myself a reminder to bid on vinyl. but it's all okay because my kids will go to college on the resale value of those awesomely rare sealed tapes that were totally there, man, in the 1980s when all the shit went down.

you're thinking of the second band. saw 'em years ago.

are you confused by the mention of  "LA band"-- thinking it means LouisianA? 'cause I bet the other band is from Los Angleles.
