Music Shit / Re: Thrift Score
« on: May 08, 2013, 07:03:53 AM »
Yesterday I came across Silmaril - Given Time Or the Several Roads Lp at the thrift store.  I dont know too much about it, internet info about it claims variously private label folk, psych, xtian psych.  From Milwaukee Wisconsin.  Lp is in great condition, cover is still in shrink.

Judging by collectorsfrenzy this is definitely my best thrift score by a long shot.  10+ years of almost daily visits and something cool finally happened.

Interesting, had not heard of this one.

I hadn't either, but I noticed it was from '73, was private label, and the guys in the band photos on the back looked at least halfway cool.  At least as cool as you can look playing a recorder.  I still haven't played it, I don't really know what to expect.  Some of the old listings on popsike really hype it up, but I take that with a grain of salt.

This is the latest vid I made of my friends skating and whatnot.

We barely had winter here in Wisconsin this year.  Made for some cool skatings when normally there would not have been any skatings.

The other day I scored probably the worst and most boring best thrift store find.  A retail copy of Autocad 2011, in the box, 4 dvds, with serial number for $2.  If you want to buy the newest version (2013) from the Autodesk website, it costs $3,995.00 per seat.  Dang.
Punk! I use Autodesk products almost daily (well, 3dsMax).

I still use Autocad 2000 sometimes at work, I'm not even sure I could relate to 2011, it's probably way different.  We mostly use Solidworks here these days.

I don't think I could resell that copy of 2011 I found though.  I've read about AutoDesk before, they're super litigious and subscribe to the notion that you're not buying the software, you're buying a license.  I think they shut down all Ebay auctions of any of their stuff if it's used.  Not Punk!  So basically I have a $2 paperweight that used to cost $4000 a couple of years ago.

Been playing MW3, still not sold on it.  The game totally rewards you for playing like a lazy asshole.  Run around, guns blazing?  Shit aint gonna happen.  This is always how I played black ops, and I was pretty good.  In mw3 there's just too many corners and stupid places to hide.  Shits everywhere.  Kids just sit there and wait for you, you have no chance...especially me with my shitty internet.  If I just sit there and aim down some hallway I can do good, but what's the point.

I like battlefield 3 better, but none of my friends want to play it.  Stuck playing against the 12 year olds on mw3 instead.

For some reason I see these at thrift stores all the time.  I picked up Clockwork Orange and Empire Strikes back on CED...for some reason.  I saw a player once, but I didn't get it.  Probably didn't work anyway.

I've done a lot of super 8 stuff.

There's a place in LA that develops for ~$15 a 50' roll (roughly 3 minutes of film).

I've used 'em a couple of times.  Turn around is fast.

black ops has been real fun ever since they fixed the spawns.  well, except for the fuckin' lag.  shooting dudes that never die, CONSTANTLY.  doesn't make me lose my mind like the spawns did though.
