Hi everyone,

Seventeen Records is back, after a couple of years of silence. The reason we've been dormant, you all know it : the record industry have changed. Tons of labels and distributors have ceased to exist, and music sellers are closing doors left and right.

It's now nearly impossible to reissue a cult CD in today's "official" distribution market, and expect to recoup production costs with 30 sales on the month of release, as is the case right now. At the same time, vinyl is back, big time. At Seventeen, we always loved vinyl. You all know it, if you bought our Metal Urbain, Guilty Razors, or Baader Meinhof Wagen records. Alas, the french market, even with it's great vinyl stores, is too small to recoup productions costs too.

It's a new world, and it calls for new solutions. We decided to partner with Ulule http://www.ulule.com/ and let YOU decide the fate of our vinyl records projects. The way it works is simple : you will be charged your order only if the minimum of sales to recoup production costs is achieved, making the release certain. If it's not met, you will not be charged, and the project will be canceled.

To test this, and reboot the label, we've gone back to square one. Metal Urbain. The true, 76-78 punk pioneers. A lot of you have asked us to reissue the original Rough Trade release Les  Hommes Morts sont Dangereux on vinyl, which been out of print since 2004. You can now help this reissue to exist, by pre-buying it on ulule site here http://fr.ulule.com/metal-urbain/

You can choose between a red vinyl version, or black vinyl version, one coming with the bonus original single, the other not. Both will feature a bonus CD with all the record tracks on it thought, which you can keep, or give to friends. Remember, you will only pay if the sales target is reached.

We have other similar projects awaiting to be issued at Seventeen including the MU demos from 1978 LP and the Desperados reissue. They will also be featured on Ulule, so that they can finally exist. For all the people who pre-ordered them, yours still stand, and we will be working with both Hermann Schwartz, Pat Luger and original MU single Clode Panik to make sure you get something extra for these releases.

Thanks for you support. Our new email adress is seventeenrecords (at) numericable.fr

Music Shit / The Stooges "Weirdness" thread
« on: February 04, 2007, 01:25:37 PM »
So, is anyone expecting anything from the new Stooges LP, coming out next month ?

There's a track, "My idea of fun", currently doing the round all over the blogs and punk sites.

The Stooges - My Idea Of Fun All Over The Internet

January 29th, 2007 at 11:30 by Stuart Heritage

Last week saw just about every dusty old band in the history of the universe get back together even though nobody has expressed an interest in them for longer than anyone cares to remember - yes James and Crowded House, we mean you.

So it's a breath of fresh air to know that there's one reforming band out there that still matters - yes The Stooges, we mean you. The three albums that The Stooges released in the late 1960s and early 1970s ripped a hole in music so large that its never quite been repaired - and now The Stooges are back just to make it a bit bigger again. Like the last 33 years never happened, Iggy Pop has recruited The Stooges for The Weirdness, a Steve Albini-produced album that'll be seeing the light of day In March.

That's too long to wait, so it's just as well The Stooges have discovered MySpace and splashed a new track, My Idea Of Fun, all over it. My Idea Of Fun is classic Stooges - Iggy Pop's red-raw livewire yell has never sounded better than when backed by Ron and Scott Asheton's planet-shredding primitive thump and roar - and, if nothing more, it answers the question of what Iggy Pop's idea of fun is ("My idea of fun" he informs us "is killing everyone"). My Idea Of Fun by The Stooges is exactly what you need on a Monday morning - loud, stroppy and more exciting than anything you can think of. Bring on The Weirdness.

You can listen to a very compressed version on their myspace

Music Shit / PARKINSON SQUARE BACK TOGETHER !
« on: January 21, 2007, 07:19:14 AM »

With the first Parkinson Square album reissue / remix coming in june on Seventeen Records, the original Parkinson Square members have regrouped and started rehearsing together again !

There are talks, becoming more and more real, of several reunions concerts to happen in the Lyon area. The whole town is buzzing, as Parkinson Square was one of the most hard hitting hardcore bands to originate from there in the 80's.

You can listen to samples of the upcoming CD on myspace, a rough remix of The Maze (which just shows the difference between the original mix and what was actually on tape), and two different, totally clashing versions of Leprosy, both from 1995 :  the Acoustic version (live), and then the Electric version, which shows the extent of Parkinson Square musical range !

The reformation is 100% original members, same guys that were in the band when they stopped working 10 years ago.

One must remember, Parkinson Square was one of the early, and only, hardcore bands to originate from France, touring with DOA, No Means No etc...

Music Shit / FuturS Ex from France
« on: December 14, 2006, 09:00:03 AM »
New band made by Ex members of classic or cult french punk bands, and the first new release on Seventeen Records (as opposed to reissues)

Pat Kebra (guitar, ex Oberkampf)
RXC (bass, vocals, ex WC3 / A 3 dans les WC)
Thierry Gaulme (ex Attentat Rock)

They are rockin out their first gig this saturday in Paris, at the Seventeen Club #0 night, the free 7" vinyl is offered at the door, entry is 5 €, 17H30, at le Truskel, 10/12 rue Feydau, 75002 Paris subway "grand boulevards".

For those who cannot get there, we are making a few copies of the single available in the seventeen shop also. If any of you ordered the Guilty Razors 7" pack singles, fancy a free extra copy, let me know, I'm packing them this week end. It's the least I owe you guys for pre-ordering the stuff and trusting us.

This single won't be available after this event, not in this color that is, this is a one off. We only made 500. Take out the free band copies + the free gig copies, and there won't be more than 100/150 left.

Music Shit / Metal Urbain recording new LP with Jello Biafra !
« on: February 18, 2006, 01:07:34 AM »
To all those who enjoy this pioneering mix of drum machine and synths noises with stooges like riffage and rock'n'roll solos from the 70's :

The new version of the band is leaving today Paris to San Francisco, where they will record their new and first LP with JELLO BIAFRA producing in the next two weeks.

You can expect surprise shows in the SF area, (hopefully with Jello guesting ? we don't know, but can hope).

If you got the Acute CD "anarchy in paris", you know what I'm talking about.

If you didn't, I still got about 20 copies left of the "Chef d'oeuvre "double CD digipack, which is the most complete collection of this great band so far, find it there :

http://www.seventeenrecords.com/cdshop.html

or get until feb 21 for a cheap price the single CD album version, 17 tracks reissue of the original album
