Music Shit / Re: Iggy's still got shake appeal!

A pal got him interviewed recently, he looks like any 60 years old business, in good spirits, nothing like the "dark lord" look of the Stooges era. I'm sure many women would blow him, but that would be for his money.

The germs have been back together minus one for years, with the actor playing DC in the Germs movie standing in as Darby Crash.
Don looked fresher on that back Germs LP sleeve thought.

You forgot the 4 records compagnies (majors) label honchos who will kill the creativity by buying it out, and cleaning it up for mass consumption until no one, mass or small core oforiginal fans, is interested anymore, and the beautiful guys ending up drugged, dead, or barmen in half a decade.

wayne kramer´s epitaph records are...almost as great as greg ginn´s solo records.

Excel files were created for something.

Just do your math, and figure how much you wanna put in the quality dept...

Remember quality can be either costly, or same level, but reduced cost, depending on who you work with. Don't get fooled by someone who will charge you big bucks for a shit, loud mastering with no dynamics.

I must have missed an episode, that doc is "unofficial" while there is an official one ?
Man, the Stooges never get into such twisted situations, and they had enough to back it up to the MC5 tenfold ;)

Music Shit / Re: Reissues vs. Originals.

Yeah, have em all. The original CDs sounded old badly mastered, vinyl was sure much better. You might be talking a more recent issue, but using the old CD mastering one (not ours).

Anyway, anyone interested in differences not only between original LPs and reissues LPs, but also original CDs and reissue CDs, might want to check the Steve Hoffman forums

http://www.stevehoffman.tv/forums/

There's a decent ratio of punk and garage related posts, and it's a good way using the search engine, to discover which X-Ray Spex CD reissue, out of the 27 versions that are out there, sounds best, for example. Also many discussions about Raw Power and more...

They were many bands since les Thugs faded away, it's just that communication, and records, took a while to get out there, by then most band would be dead.
But it's true there's very much a big ratio of shit or unoriginal bands that have been drowning the land with self produced CDs distributed by major companies (no vinyl). Most good one concentrate on issuing vinyl, unsurprisingly.
Also, I think many "fun punk" bands from the mid eighties onward, generally bought the quality level down, even if they experienced great success in France only.
The Born Bad team is where it's at, they are a good quality central for whatever is happening around regarding current bands.

You might mean the US CD issue ? That one was rushed out before the mastering was done. I was speaking of the vinyl, not CD. The original LP and the Fan Club CD used second generation dubs of the masters, we went back to the original for the french releases.

Any time we do reissues, like the Metal Urbain LP, we always take the originals as reference, and won't press until the lacquer smokes them in everyway, or is at least equal.

Sleeves needs to be scanned from the original print screens, not the sleeve, unless of course the original art is lost. There are ways to make sure the scanned art is crisp, but it appears some compagnies just don't use them. I mean those UK Subs reissues, on whatever label, where the lettering is badly redone and the art fuzzy, just don't make you want to put out 20 bucks.

When you do redo a sleeve for vinyl, and have problem with the lettering, I think the minimum is make a search, and use the exact same fonts used for the original. If it's done well, people won't notice the difference.

We currently are working on the 1st Christian Death LP, "Only Theater of Pain", it will I think render the current pressings nice collectors. We are using both the french rare sleeve and the original american sleeve, scanned from the original print screens provided by Frontier.

Raw Power pressings varies, I think the best sounding one is the european 77 pressing, the one everyone had back in the days, it was LOUD. The Iggy mix have never ever been issued on vinyl, all the current vinyl reissues are the original Bowie mix.

Kramer lost big time on this, especially whatever credibility he had left

Anyone seen them live recently ? Saw them twice, and it kicked serious arse. Of course the show was all the classics from the first two albums.
Scott may look older than in 1969 (but of course), but he still beat the drums like no other.
As for Ron, his mastery of the guitar is phenomenal.
Iggy still has it, he can put the fire into 5000 people with that band behind him. He also likes to stage dive about 4 times in a row, making the bouncers job difficult.

So, is anyone expecting anything from the new Stooges LP, coming out next month ?

There's a track, "My idea of fun", currently doing the round all over the blogs and punk sites.

The Stooges - My Idea Of Fun All Over The Internet

January 29th, 2007 at 11:30 by Stuart Heritage

Last week saw just about every dusty old band in the history of the universe get back together even though nobody has expressed an interest in them for longer than anyone cares to remember - yes James and Crowded House, we mean you.

So it's a breath of fresh air to know that there's one reforming band out there that still matters - yes The Stooges, we mean you. The three albums that The Stooges released in the late 1960s and early 1970s ripped a hole in music so large that its never quite been repaired - and now The Stooges are back just to make it a bit bigger again. Like the last 33 years never happened, Iggy Pop has recruited The Stooges for The Weirdness, a Steve Albini-produced album that'll be seeing the light of day In March.

That's too long to wait, so it's just as well The Stooges have discovered MySpace and splashed a new track, My Idea Of Fun, all over it. My Idea Of Fun is classic Stooges - Iggy Pop's red-raw livewire yell has never sounded better than when backed by Ron and Scott Asheton's planet-shredding primitive thump and roar - and, if nothing more, it answers the question of what Iggy Pop's idea of fun is ("My idea of fun" he informs us "is killing everyone"). My Idea Of Fun by The Stooges is exactly what you need on a Monday morning - loud, stroppy and more exciting than anything you can think of. Bring on The Weirdness.

You can listen to a very compressed version on their myspace
