What y'all need to get up on is some Justin Wilson. I own the 7UP Corporation. . . best punchline ever.

Non-Music Shit / Re: HI FI BUDGET TURNTABLES
« on: May 16, 2009, 08:06:04 AM »
I have a Music Hall mmf 2.1. Got it for a good price and it does its job pretty well. Picking up the platter to change the speed gets a little old especially with 7"s that have one side at 45 rpms and the other at 33. I'd recommend this turntable as a kinda nice budget buy but I don't know if Music Hall still makes em'.

Non-Music Shit / Re: New Star Trek Movie
« on: May 13, 2009, 10:11:36 AM »
Saw this two nights ago, with some work people. We all got pretty stoney baloney before hand which turned out to be a really good idea. I really enjoyed all the light flares in the camera work and just the whole overall aesthetic. I also kept thinking that there were a lot of Star Wars similarities; pacing, hoth, overall feel, that made the movie way better than any other Star Trek movie, most of which are fucking boring.

BERKELEY WOMEN'S MUSIC COLLECTIVE - tryin to survive
Proto lesbian folk, funny stuff, not worth more than free though. Quote from the back of the self titled album, "The Bloods - This song grew out of a discussion with a friend about the pros and cons of menstruation; that historically the cons have been exploited by men to make us feel bad about our bodies, and hence, weaker." Oh, neat.

Johnny Whitaker - Friends - Amazing pop record with tons of sweet Beatles rip offs. This dude was the child star of Sigmund and the Sea Monster, a Sid and Marty Croft show along the same lines as H.R. Pufnstuf. Really cool record probably better than any of the Jack Wilde stuff.

Is the Herb Alpert lp Whipped Cream and Other Delights good? I remember CollectorScum mentioned it and I found one in San Antonio later that day, but it was incredibly scratched. A month later, I found two more. One of them had a split at the bottom of the jacket, but the actual records didn't look too bad. Haven't had a chance to listen yet.
Even if the vinyl is beat, these things are scarce enough that you could easily flip it for the cover alone. Blows my mind to see someone come across several copies of a $400 LP and not score any of them!
I'd heard a Herb Alpert before and knew it wasn't a punk rock record. I thought my post seemed stupid/vague. Just wondered if it was good. I bought for the cover because it wasn't ayable and only 49 cents. The other two were in another store on the other side of town and were 75 cents each. Figured I'd buy it to give it a listen.
I can't believe that you found three copies of this!  PM me if you can trade one.
Dude, Whipped Cream and Other Delights is decent, goes for money because of the small pressing size/most copies ended up in a landfill. Nice score though. The real scorcher is Sounds Like, 40+ minutes of pure freakout hornage. Keep your eyes open.

Music Shit / Re: Rockpile v. Nick Lowe
« on: April 17, 2009, 08:28:47 AM »
How is this even a debate. Dave Edmunds/Rockpile don't even come close to touching Nick Lowe's first two albums. Also, naming your first album Jesus of Cool is pretty bad ass.

-- all bottled in reused Double Wide containers.  Had to empty em first, natch.
Yes please.

free state brewing - lawrence, kansas - really good stuff.  ad astra ale, copperhead pale, etc. are good, as are the rotaing cask choices.
Yes. Copperhead is right. Free State has a decent beer cheese soup too. This place kills McCoy's. I know Boulevard has wide distribution but the smokestack series they are doing has been consistently amazing, the Double Wide IPA and the Sixth Glass are probably my favorite. They also did limited runs of Saison-Brett, Imperial Stout, and Bourbon Barrel Quad, all of which were pretty great.

Music Shit / Re: i want to hear an album of this man's drumming
« on: April 14, 2009, 08:58:38 AM »
This isn't a sweet bucket drummer, it's Cerrone, but it's really cool drumming with out there sound effects. Worth a listen. Also, totally amazing find for this dude.

Remember when record collecting didn't fucking suck and there weren't two million tiny shitty labels with one or two releases to buy. I know you have to start somewhere but, goddamn, this is getting ridiculous. I'm glad I've never bought into the pre-order thing but it is getting to be a huge pain in the ass to keep up with everything coming out, to the point where I don't really care as much as I used to. Besides, it's way more fun to dig an unknown out of a thrift store bin than it is to buy new shit anyway. Also,
for the 63 dol. I bought 3 copies of each. One for me and two copies to put on ebay.
BACKFIRED, EH?
No, not for Ebay. For trade with a couple of friends who are too lazy to buy on the internet.
Yeah right.

Fag Cop - Not actually from Kansas City but so terrible I feel he deserves mention here.
Worst of the worst
i think this must be a typo or a joke...
Nope. No joke. Not even a typo. Only pure awfulness.

"Before the night is through you shall taste the black sperm of my vengence!" - Z Man
Don't know how many times I've seen this movie but it never gets old. Other movies I could watch everyday:
The Big Lebowski - Undeniable.
Hackers - About five summers ago, I was working construction and living with some friends in Iowa City, IA. For some reason I would watch this to fall asleep every night but I would almost always watch it all the way through and then go to sleep.
Sleepaway Camp - The whole series is great but the first one is the perfect blend of early eighties cheese and actual fucked up plot line.
Spring Break - Just for the songs, "Me and the Boys" and "Let's Hit the Beach". And for the awesome premise.
