Music Shit / Re: Recent Acquisitions
« on: April 06, 2009, 12:15:25 AM »
I just went on Toronto Craigslist with the remnants of a large collection of utterly unremarkable stuff-- Mantovani, Mrs Miller, Sing Along With Mitch et al, with a few Madonna and Led Zep LPs in the pile-- and advertised it honestly with caveat that I wasn't listing titles or grading, but there was some cool kitschy cover art and as many records sealed as beat, and threw in an old ottoman that held 12" records.  250 records, $100.  Got about ten offers right away and sold it easily and painlessly (to a guy who turned out to be behind an old Canadian KBD 45 that I've never even heard, no less).

Anyways, I suggest parceling this into lots of 300 LPs and doing the same, $100 a batch.  Don't get greedy or make misleading promises, and you can easily make a good chunk on those records.

This is a good idea but I kind of like having 200 Christmas records in my basement and every Joe Stampley record ever made. Also, today I scored the Deutscher Tanzabend 7" by D.U.R. and a bunch of power pop 7"s at a place that never has anything worth grabbing.

Just split a mystery pallet of close to 3000 records with my roommate for $100 from some dude getting rid of the last of the records that used to be in this huge record store called Music Exchange. Went into this knowing that we would be stuck with a ton of crap but it was a fun adventure. Basically out of all the boxes we had 2 great, 5 worthwhile, and a handful of interesting novelty/local stuff. Highlights - Scott Wilke and the Walls, Standard of Living, Paul Winter, Deborah E. Lillygren. Still a big pile of stuff to listen to, could be a couple more gems but I'm not getting too excited.

Non-Music Shit / Re: Jobs

I cook at a restaurant that I couldn't afford to eat at. Pretty fun as far as jobs go, free beer every night after we close and I work with a varied group of interesting weirdos.

Ghost Hospital - D+ 7" - Too catchy.
Standard of Living - Six Songs EP - Great synthy punk record with pretty amateurish vocals and plenty of casio madness.
Paul Winter - Common Ground LP - What the hell? The A side of this record is legitimately fucking awesome featuring subdued vocals, weird repetitive keyboard parts, and tons of cool effects. Too bad the B side is a complete new age turd.

Red Terror: The Original Soundtrack - I don't think this is an actual soundtrack but it is a pretty killer no-wavy post-punk record. Private press from St. Louis and kind of difficult to track down but well worth it.

Mythical Beast - Could be alright if they ditched the singer, oh well they just left for Philadelphia, not my town not my problem.
Pink Socks - Just straight up terrible garage shlock. Completely unoriginal but very confident. Bad combination.
Witch and Hare - They're nice guys you know?
The Rich Boys - Just some of the most unintentionally funny lyrics around.
Fag Cop - Not actually from Kansas City but so terrible I feel he deserves mention here.
I Love You - Ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha.

Worst of the worst.
