Local champ, Le Revelateur, has a new album coming out on Root Strata. It is the best.

I foresee Argentina v. Spain in the final, in which case Spain will probably win. I would love to see Portugal play in the finals & I don't think that is especially hard to imagine. Would be sicke! I grew up playing Portuguese style football and I will be near Porto for a conference during the final.

The game today went as expected, but I don't think the win was necessarily deserved. The penalty was iffy & the call against Olic was straight up bullshit. I watched the game with a Serbian nationalist, but I couldn't exactly delight in his good cheer after a game won in that fashion.

Cool stuff, but those two amazing Flesh Eaters albums really stick out. Great reissues.

I don't know... this all sticks out! What an incredible label... one that often has me scratching my head thinking, How did they do that?!

Music Shit / Re: Best 2013 Lps
« on: November 04, 2013, 03:35:24 PM »

Weird year. Mostly reissues, yeah? Most moving new one for me is the new Circuit des Yeux LP, but I've only heard the side that's streaming on Bandcamp. I like it a lot! Haven't heard more than a track or two of the new Liquor Store, but the rest is probably just as good. I released LPs by Canadian bands Babysitter and UBT, which I think are great. Check 'em out, you clods. Most recent Sightings is pretty good (this year, or was I slow to pick it up?), a more rocking release than they've done in a while. Latest Wolf Eyes & Nate Young LPs were OK. Honestly, I don't know. This is the time of the year that I actually start buying shit, so let me know! Oh, and I think the new Pink Noise LP is worth checking out, but I'm in da bloody band. We're hitting the East Coast in a couple weeks, so come buy the record, eh?

HEY YEAH, I didn't see this post. The album can be ordered direct from Skrot Up now, shipping from USA. Are you Morten's man in SF, JimV?

Anyway, you can buy the record on Skrot Up's website: http://www.skrotup.com/-PINK_NOISE/p694899_10452390.aspx

I will also get it up on the Psychic Handshake web store as soon as possible for Canadian customers (shipping will be a few dollars cheaper).

Finally, we're going to be hitting the road in November. Unfortunately had to scrub some earlier tour dates because of work, but we should be rolling by Nov. 16th. East Coast and some Midwest.

I'm a librarian. Part-time at least for the moment. Will weigh in later because I'm half in the bag right now, but I agree with Arturo that a focus on something like digital asset management is probably your best bet if you're looking for a job. If you can find a school that has it together enough to be teaching RDA that would also be good. Don't go into debt for this shit.

Non-Music Shit / Re: going to:Montreal, Quebec
« on: February 27, 2013, 02:39:35 PM »

The mile-end is pretty much all vintage shops.... St. Viateur and Bernard between Parc and St. Laurent.

Du dieu ciel is a great place for top notch in-house brews and limited time tap slections, but it's often too noisey and packed for my tastes.

Also, as Meanbean notes, there are tons of great QC beers available by the bottle. There's a Dep at fairmount and St. Laurent that sells a bunch of them... but I truly believe that there's not much better than a bottle of St. Ambroise Oatmeal Stout poured in a glass & that's available everywhere.

My record shopping has been pretty limited, so I can't really weigh in. Single trips to Cheap Thrills, Aux 33 Tours, and Sonik in the past 8 months. All great shops.
