Anyone have any experience with reissuing material previously released by now extinct labels? I know Superior Viaduct has done an amazing job at this, although at times that has led to some bumps with artists who didn't own the rights to their own music (Craig Nommos for example). I'm interested in exploring re-issuing some older new music/modern composition works that are long out of print but have not had much luck figuring out who owns the rights and many times old e-mails for labels and artists don't work or the artists themselves have no idea who has the masters, the original film for the cover art, etc...

After a 1-year hiatus, that no one but me really noticed. The "experimental" label I run out of my apt. in South Brooklyn is slowly making a comeback. Scheduled for the first half of 2016 are the following releases:

ROBERT TURMAN & AARON DILLOWAY "Blizzard" 2xLP (FABREC037)
DAVID FIRST "Same Animal, Different Cages Vol.1: Etudes for Acoustic Guitar" LP (FABREC040.1)
LUCIERNAGA Sleeping/Wandering 7" EP (FABEP010.5)
ALAN COURTIS "Los Galpones" LP (FABREC038)
RAPOON "Dream Circle" 2xLP (FABREC039)
LETHA RODMAN-MELCHIOR "TBD" LP (FABREC041)
DAVID FIRST "Same Animal, Different Cages: Vol.2 " LP (FABREC040.2)

More info soon and pre-orders will be posted at http://www.fabricarecords.com

Most recent release was a digital compilation to benefit refugees from Syria, Iraq, Libya called V/A "You Are Welcome Here" which can be downloaded for a donation here - https://fabricarecords.bandcamp.com  (I'm also slowly adding the entire back-catalog on bandcamp)

A new sub-label called Idle Chatter will be dedicated to releasing limited-edition cassettes which will be distributed via Fabrica Records.

Anyways, I'll use this thread to make label updates on new releases.

Any U.S. shops or distros carrying this?

Prices from the UK and via a website like amazon.com are insane for a 2xLP.

Is there a U.S. pressing in the works?
8
]Any pressing but ideally in NM/VG+ condition.

I'll be adding more stuff over the next 2-3 days. You can pm me, but e-mail is probably the fastest way to reach me at, and that's at fabricarecs(at)gmail(dot)com which is also my Paypal address.

Prices DO NOT include shipping, prices are negotiable for multiple items.

Cities / NYC - I want to play in a band.
« on: January 21, 2015, 01:53:50 PM »
I play competent guitar (not flashy), can sing too. I'm 36 and work 9-5 Mon-Fri so it would have to be a weekend thing.
For fun, practice, play a few shows maybe release a tape or 7". Maybe even tour for like one or two weeks every year. But I can't commit to much more, unless there's a demand for it... Looking to play simple punk ala Wire/The Fall... "adult punk".

I came very late to discovering the joy of listening to compilations of music taken from scratchy old 78s. As a non-American I really didn't know about the wealth of early 20th Century Country, Blues, Folk, etc until I got a job at a record store and one of the clerks introduced me to stuff like the Carter Family, Dock Boggs, a lot of the blues guys whose names start with "Blind", Skip James, Big Bill Broonzy, Robert Johnson, Memphis Minnie, etc..

Anyways, those early Mississippi comps like "Last Kind Words", "Life Is Trouble", "Fight On, Your Time Aint Long" were awesome for a newbie like me. Later discovering the Yazoo label and some of the more recent reissues and compilations by Tompkins Square, Dust-to-Digital, Mississippi (and related labels) continue to be a source of enjoyment and I'm excited about discovering and learning more about music made during the pre-radio/tv days of american music.

Please share some of your favorites! Links to existing reissues and comps would be awesome.

New Releases:

VINYL:

THE TOBACCONISTS A Secret Place LP
The Tobacconists are Scott Foust (Idea Fire Company) and Frans de Waard (Kapotte Muziek/Beequeen). "A Secret Place" is a sound collage of fractured synths, industrial thumps, sampled distant voices and eerie atmospherics. Foust and De Waard are self-proclaimed Dome enthusiasts and "A Secret Place" feels like a reverential yet wholly original nod to Bruce Gilbert and Graham Lewis's post-Wire works. Printed in an edition of 300 on translucent green vinyl as a split release with A Giant Fern (Portugal). Only 150 copies for the U.S.

UNICORN Playing With Light LP
Issued a decade ago as a CD on Housepig, Unicorn's beautiful and sinister album "Playing With Light" is re-introduced to listeners as a rearranged and remastered LP. Unicorn is WT Nelson, known previously as party to 90s avant-hardcore outfit Man is the Bastard and its spawn, the prolific Bastard Noise. "Playing With Light" features three tracks originally prepared to accompany short films by Stephanie Miller, and, interspersed with standalone compositions, works cohesively to limn a world where the alien oscilloscapes of Bastard Noise merge with earthy synths and electric mandocello. The album opens with a transfixing music box motif that wouldn't be out of place ushering in the opening credits of a vintage thriller. In "Spots," the 10-minute centerpiece track, a mostly unaccompanied synth melody uses syncopation to create the impression of stumbling through darkness. "Clay & Fire" threatens to burst into full-bore power electronics territory but doesn't; the narration we hear is not a transgressive confession but instead a factory worker's discovery of pottery as a respite from his labor. From there the record offers an electronic crescendo before resolving in the almost-comforting "Far Away; Close To You," which trails off in Morse code blips clearly transmitted but only possibly received. "Playing With Light" is unique in Nelson's discography and is entirely deserving of this vinyl reincarnation. "Rhodes, Electric Mandocello, Various Trogotronic Electronic / Electro Acoustics Prototypes & Field Recordings."
Mastered by Timothy Stollenwerk and presented in an edition of 250 copies with download code.

TAPES

SINDRE BJERGA Future Jazz Loops C-60
"?cassette player drones and kitchen sink psychedelia, sound ghosts hidden deep in the molten magnetic tapes.. always aiming for that mind-altering head trip?" Multifaceted Norwegian veteran of the international DIY experimental/noise circuit, Sindre Bjerga, has been performing and releasing music since the 90's under his own name and with a series of projects and collaborations.
On this, his debut for Fabrica Records, he presents us with three live performances from 2013. Pro-dubbed edition of 50 audio cassettes.

KILT She's Got The Evil In Her Ear C-60
KILT are Bob Bellerue, Raven Chacon and Sandor Finta exploring and excavating sounds that could only rise from within the darkest crevices of the human spirit. The sound of metal being scraped across the factory floor. Distortion seeping from a broken speaker. A jukebox playing in a loop inside a jet engine. Death ritual ceremonial music. She's Got The Evil In Her Ear consists of nearly 60 minutes of recordings culled from two different live performances by this mighty noise power trio. Pro-dubbed edition of 50 audio cassettes.

PARASHI Tovarich C-30
Albany, NY's Parashi is Mike Griffin, of Skell Records, long-running solo noise project."Tovarich" is a fine addition to his ever growing catalog of noise activism geared towards the creation of a "new human" by hammering away at the shackles of petit-bourgeois values and capitalism.Electronic bleeps and blasts, industrial loops, warped synths, ravaged tape loops, are all part of this brainwashing soundtrack made to tell the dried up corpse of Ronald Reagan to f*ck off because "that WALL is going back up motherf*cker!" Mike also regularly collaborates with his fellow comrades in Burnt Hills, Urkas, and Mensheviks. Pro-dubbed edition of 50 audio cassettes.

LUCIERNAGA/LA MANCHA DEL PECADO Split C-30
Brooklyn's (via Chile) Luciernaga and Ciudad Juarez, Mexico's La Mancha del Pecado join forces again after their last, and very limited edition. split tape from 2010. Luciernaga is Joao Da Silva, half-owner of Fabrica Records and La Mancha is Miguel Perez who also has hands in Agorafobia Tapes, and musical projects ZN, Colectivo N, Skull Mask, and Wehrmacht Lombardo. On this new offering, each project contributes a side-long brooding industrial-tinged drone. The sounds echo the early days of pre-dance-beats industrial music, therefore, the packaging is a tribute to one of the pioneering acts and first record labels of this genre. Pro-dubbed edition of 50 audio cassettes packaged in a 5" x 5" reel-to-reel box.
