what's sketchy about 86 Mentality?

one of those guys is one of my BFF's and the other I worked with at a bar... he acted like a retard when drunk but was overall a really nice guy and a decent co-worker.

A DIY label I help out is doing a 12"EP for a relatively new Washington, DC band. This label was active in early 2000's and then went on hiatus, back then there were still plenty of zines to send your releases to for reviews. Other than the obvious  (MRR, Razorcake, Give Me Back, etc..), what zines are left that do music reviews?

Any advice would be very much appreciated.

i feel a bit sketchy/uncomfortable whenever I buy another Death in June album that is missing from my collection, same goes for Blood Axis and other weird crypto-fascist post-punk. In spite of all the nazi imagery, I really like the music.

Buy some Deathrats 7"s you wankers, it's hardcore.

i too was "tricked" into buying the hairdryer peace lp, luckily i was able to re-sell for the same amount and then went and spent it on three pints of hubby chubby ben and jerry's...   thank you hospitals for the explosive diarrhea that followed.

BLACK SHAPE OF NEXUS ?s/t? LP - 3 songs ( about 45 minutes ) of massive doom, think Khanate meets Corrupted, mastered by JAMES PLOTKIN ( old lady drivers, khanate, phantomsmasher ). Black Shape of Nexus? brand of doomic energy is drawn from bands like Harvey Milk, Karp, The Melvins, godheadSilo, more a sort of downtuned propulsive sludge with doom elements, than pure doom. Thick ropy buzzbass, pounding destructo drums, throaty howls, grinding guitars, all lurching and swaying like some drugged and demented superrock doombeast, all filtered through a bit of grinding screamo and some buzzed out metallic blackness. Produced by James Plotkin. Spiffy black and gold sleeves.

DEATHRATS ?s/t? 7″ - Debut 7″on purple splattered vinyl by these Washington, DC female fronted hardcore punk thrashers. Watching them live is an experience in of it itself (does that make any sense?), now they have transferred all the rage and energy they put into their notorious live shows onto a slab of vinyl. For fans of I Object, PUNCH, Lebenden Toten, Coleman (remember them?), and awesome noisy ear-blasting hardcore. Limited edition of 300 with silk-screened covers.

SALOME ?s/t? LP - 4 songs of massive, heavy doom / sludge metal somewhere between killing groovy riffing and the absolute lava viscosity of BURNING WITCH; hailing from Virgina. ?Drug-induced and alcohol-fueled heavy stoner slugdecore with thundering guitars, pounding drums and eerie painful screamed or grunted vocals from a female vocalist. SALOME take the obligatory SABBATH-influences in their riffing and transcend them into a monotonous, but no way lethargic monster that tends between pure hate and some hidden melancholy. Actually unbelievable that it is only guitar and drums building this massive wall of sound and that it is an airy lady having this ugly voice from somewhere deep below. This shit is goddamn HEAVY!?

DEATHRATS  s/t  7 ep - $6 (+$2 shipping)
Debut 7″ on purple splattered vinyl by these Washington, DC female fronted hardcore punk thrashers. Watching them live is an experience in of it itself (does that make any sense?), now they have transferred all the rage and energy they put into their notorious live shows onto a slab of vinyl. For fans of PUNCH, Lebenden Toten, Coleman (remember them?), and awesome noisy ear-blasting hardcore.

AGHAST Suffocating Authority 7″ ep - $8
New 7″ from these crusty Richmond, VA noisemongers. Loud as fuck punk blast of mayhem. Know what I mean? On limited edition color vinyl, released by the band themselves on Desolate Legacy. If you love satan and d-beat noise influenced thrash punk much in the vein of Disclose and Confuse, then this is something you would enjoy. On the other hand? if you?re the kind of person who likes the idea of sitting in an empty and windowless steel cage for a room and then blast radio static at 10,000 decibels, you might also really be into this.

La Bandas (Chile) - s/t LP - $20 (shipping included)
This is the first pastabase edition, a compilation of the Chilean psychedelic improv collective, La Bandas. Since 1993, La Bandas has offered an obscure and never ending source of mutant creativity.
For their first release, La Bandas have selected jams recorded in different years, with diverse sound palettes. If you are a fan of Can, Faust, Neu and Throbbing Gristle, this could very well be right up your alley.

HUME Presents: The Phat Daughter String Quartet LP - $15 (+$3 shipping)
A joint Ruffian/Sockets release, this LP brings together 4 string quartet pieces by Britton Powell (Hume, Barkitecture) with 4 dank b-side dub deconstructions of said pieces. Recorded in the depth of summer 2008 and mixed by Powell and Hugh McElroy (Black Eyes, Hand Fed Babies, Cephalopods) using a vintage Space Echo and Mutron phaser, the disc is probably not much like anything else that came out that year

Here?s some...

Supersordo (only released tapes and a live CD, but former members are working on a discography re-issue), someone created this fan myspace page - http://www.myspace.com/supersordotheband

Electrodomesticos made this video in the 80?s - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1lYyYdPbifs

Tobias Alcayota - http://www.myspace.com/tobiasalcayota

Familea Miranda (ex-Supersordo) - http://www.myspace.com/famileamiranda

And if anyone is interested, I was invited to do a special on south American hardcore on Dissonance Radio some  time ago, and I played some of the more non-traditional punk stuff, including Supersordo for the first half - http://dissonance.libsyn.com/index.php?post_id=248354

There is a documentary about Supersordo in the works, you can see the trailer here - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jFfX2CPKByE

yes, the LP on pastabase, a friend of mine does the Pastabase label.

They are $15 each, $9 each wholesale (more than 3 copies).

distro@amorylucha.org

Chile has a long tradition of psychedelic/rock dating back to the 60's: Sacros, Congregacion, Blops, Jaivas, Congreso, Amigos de Maria... then there are some weirdos from the 80's-90's like Electrodomesticos (like Suicide/Pere Ubu), Emociones Clandestinas, DADA, Pinochet Boys, Supersordo, Tren (tape only), Tobias Alcayota, Jusolis.

I actually have a few copies of the LA BANDA's LP. I'm a Chilean living in Brooklyn, NY and do distro for Amor y Lucha records (www.amorylucha.org) from Washington, DC. the La Banda LPs are not listed yet, but drop me a line if you're interested in purchasing one at distro@amorylucha.org

I also have Electrozombies/C-Utter LP which is doom metal and ambient from Chile and Spain respectively... also Famila Miranda, Marcel Duchamp. etc...
