Non-Music Shit / Re: Acid
« on: May 26, 2009, 11:46:25 PM »
did acid two nights ago for the first time. it was okay. liked mushrooms better. but, my friend who was also doing it only took one hit, literally went crazy, gave me a bloody nose, left our place, went to a braum's a couple of miles away, tried to break into a truck, assaulted an old man, then assaulted two police officers. he's currently in either juvie or a mental hospital right now. i'm not entirely sure. this was all under my best friend's mother's watch, so we're trying to work out legal issues and shit right now because the friend that went crazy's mom is wanting to sue or something for child endangerment, i think. no fun.

"clap ya feet" by acid call is pretty ill. real percussive and easy to "jam" out to.

Good Fender-ized fury here.  Goldtones' "Gutterball" is particularly sharp, as I remember.

anyone have a download link for this? i can't find it anywhere.

Scientist 'Rids The World...'

wonderful album. although, i've checked out some of his other stuff and it's really not all that great, but definitely not bad.

Music Shit / DUB
« on: May 19, 2009, 07:32:43 AM »
not sure if there's been a thread about dub yet, but if there is, oh well. any of you here fans of dub? i'm a big fan. particularly king tubby, lee scratch perry, scientist, 10 ft. ganja plant, and lone ranger.

"roast fish, collie weed, and corn bread" by lee perry is probably one of my favorite albums of all time, actually, and perhaps one of the strangest albums i've heard.

also found this obscure 80's album by general strike that's very dubby, yet pretty psychedelic. definitely check it out if yr into dub and haven't heard it.

my band tried to play some dub at a luau-themed show (we also played wipeout in addition to our songs) a few days ago, but unfortunately our delay pedal fucked up and wasn't working, so it ended up sounding like legend by bob marley or some bullshit like that.

so, anyone like dub? maybe throw out some reccomendations?

the weird reverb/delay whathaveyou that dwyer does on 'bedroom...' sounds like the 'something weird' intro. really cool.

guess i'm not the only one.

I just bought a MusicMan combo and I must confess that knowing he uses one kinda sealed the deal. Still need the accompanying Space Echo though, haha.

the only delay pedal i have is a 70's memory man. love it. has a beautiful sound to it when you want it to and can get real nasty when you want it to.

Music Shit / Re: favorite drum sounds

The drums in "Hey Bo Diddley" are amazing. My most favorite drum track ever.
The Wax Museums.

can most definitely agree with you on both of these. completely forgot about hey! bo diddley. probably one of my favorites as well.

and as for the wax museums, i love that shit too. jason's got good taste when it comes to anything involving drums, whether it be recording them or the drums themselves.

the way it was recorded or just the drums/cymbals/whatever themselves! while not as easy to pick favorites and distinguish with drums as opposed to guitar, there's still drum sounds that really stand out.

-here are the sonics
-"shady" by american blues off of do their thing
-"she said, she said" by the beatles off of revolver

guess i'm not the only one. when i asked dwyer about it at a show, he said all's he does to achieve the sound is use that 12 string beast of a burns guitar he has which he said gets insanely loud and puts it through delay. simple as that.
