no, imagine a squid eating dough in a plastic bag, it is much more incredible.

It's the notion that something I always thought was being said might not be what was said.  But isn't there a lyric sheet in that album?  Which leads to me to say one thing I am not ever doing and that's reading lyric sheets.  Lyric sheets should be outlawed.

Are you sure it's not a squid-eating doe?

Wow, you just blew my mind.

I do think the songs on the Sub Lawns 7 inch are on the LP, but I'm totally going by memory there and don't currently have either.  I saw Suburban Lawns at Magic Mountain when I was a youngin.  I liked "Janitor" well enough and all, but I thought for sure it would suck.  No way, they were totally fucking awesome; just a really strong live band.  The whole ampitheater was going nuts; everyone liked em: punks, new wavers, preppies, etc.  Oh yeah, The Alley Cats opened up for em; they were great too.

Sheer Heart Attack is such an awesome album; I've gott dig that one out sometime.

hard to pick one, but there's a ton of totally generic misfits knock-off's that should be stopped. especially in psychobilly. i don't understand how bands will blatantly rip off the sound and style of another band, make no creative efforts of their own, and expect to be taken seriously.

True - there a lot of ridiculous looking psychobilly bands around now that mine that Misfits look.  Most contemporary butterhead bands seem to lack any sort of creativity whatsoever.  That's a fucked scene, but we've discussed that elsewhere, so...

I love Depeche Mode. Great band. Not everything they've done, but a signifcant portion of their stuff is really great. I could see people not liking them, even hating them, but the worst? Come on.

I don't like the style of their stuff most of the time, but I must admit they are strong in the songwriting department

The Warlocks were terrible. Two drummers, a smoke machine, a hippie light projector, and three guitar players in pea coats and scarves in like 90 degree weather playing awful meandering psych-rock that was nothing like any psych I've ever heard. The closest I've come to actually nodding off at a show. I only stayed because I was hoping of them would pass out from heatstroke. I've sat through a couple terrible Brian Jonestown Massacre performances too. Why, I don't know.

Yeah - I wanted to like the Warlocks, but your description is pretty dead on.  Really boring.  Especially given that, when I saw them, the Gris Gris opened up for them and, not even using the stage or the club's PA, completely dismantled them.  Just made total mincemeat out of them.  Really, it was sad.

The U-men retrospective CD (can't remember the title).  I really really like that band, but it seems most people only like a few of their singles.  I think they were really great and Tom Price's guitar playing was up there with the great innovators of the time ala Ginn, Kerr, Pope, the dude from Saccharine Trust, etc.

I avoided the early-mid 80's touring onslaught of bad English punk bands in socal, so I can't put any of those on my list.

It's weird, I have a hard time thinking of specific bands, like I block them out or something, but the ones that come to mind are:

Plain Wrap - my God, "Generic Hardcore".  What a concept.  Unbelievably bad.

The various funk rock bands (ala Chili Peppers) that were running rampant in the late 80's Texas scene.  Sprawl, Bouffant Jellyfish.  Ugh ugh ugh.

As of late, I go to shows so selectively that the only thing I can think of is a few really generic local "Punk Rawk n Roll" bands that occasionally open for bands in houston.  I can't really think of their names, though.  Yuck, I hate that thing, even though I'm sure they're influenced by similar things as I am.

LA X (yeah, that one).  Los Angeles.    Although Flipper's Album Generic Flipper (or whatever the Hell it's called) might be it.
