Music Shit / Ted Falconi on NPR
« on: November 10, 2017, 01:38:55 PM »
Celebrate Veteran's Day with America's punkest vet, Ted Falconi of Flipper.

If you live in California, you can hear my radio piece on Ted at 4:30 and 6:30 pm on your local NPR station.

Until then, read this!

First they came for the Anti-Nowhere League, and I didn't say anything.

Then they came for Peter and the Test Tube Babies...

Good to know! Was that in the '90s or 2000s?

Music Shit / Tuxedomoon's PEter Principle dies unexpectedly
« on: July 17, 2017, 03:51:04 PM »
Crazy shit. Guy was in Brussels with the band, writing new music and getting ready for a European tour. This morning, he's dead and they don't know why.

Weirdest part? He was 63, the same age that Bruce Geldudig was when he died last year. (Bruce actually died on his 63rd birthday)

Music Shit / Burger Boogaloo Break Down

I tried to review this year's Boogaloo from the perspective of someone who enjoys all the bands and isn't just doing their job. I had fun!

Music Shit / Early SF Punk bands talk about going into the studio

Richie Unterberger wrote a pretty awesome piece about what bands like Crime and the Avengers confronted when they went into the studio for the first time.

I don't know how many fans there are of Ashley/GRis Gris/The Mirrors, but I wrote a story about his time in Oakland

Just doing what Erick said and letting readers know that he's a garbage being. I think that means he's made out of garbage? Or maybe he's a "grouch." Anyway, at least he has great taste in music!

Non-Music Shit / Naked Trump Portrait
« on: April 01, 2016, 11:21:36 AM »
The artist that painted Trump with the GG Allin dick has been banned for life from Facebook and eBay.

I asked her if the painting was influenced by GG and she said no, but she's going to check him out

Thanks guys! Yeah, I love that Julian Cope quote -- it makes sense with all the crazy chords and shit. Hopefully they'll be playing shows some time next year.

Though even they admit that they would never make it big, I do think that they should be mentioned in the same breath as Hukser Du and Mission of Burma. The first time I heard "Out of the Tunnel," I remember saying out loud "They do Burma better than Burma!" I don't think I'm alone either -- when I posted the story on Facebook with the same comment, Peter Prescott liked it!
