Music Shit / MX-80 Sound
« on: November 28, 2015, 10:17:00 AM »
They have a new album out that has a lot of stuff that sounds like their work of yore.

I did a fun Q&A with them and I think you should all read it:

Music Shit / We went crazy about James Williamson and the Stooges
« on: November 27, 2015, 09:57:55 PM »
So a few weeks back we not only made a sweet podcast about Williamson's story of going from the Stooges to Sony VP:

And then I interviewed him and we talked about the Hell of being a Stooge:

Music Shit / Ruby Ray talks about the earliest days of San Francisco punk
« on: September 20, 2015, 09:13:38 AM »
She shared some great stories and her amazing photos -- that Flipper photo alone is the best -- so I highly suggest reading it:

Really sad news but I did get to include a quote from Monoshock/Liquorball shredder Grady Runyon

Music Shit / Holy shit David Yow is fronting Flipper
« on: July 31, 2015, 05:01:42 PM »
If you haven't heard the news, Bruce Loose's back is too fucked up so David Yow is singing for the band.

No, this is real:

Music Shit / RIP Don JOyce of Negativland
« on: July 23, 2015, 03:14:52 PM »
Negativland's Don Joyce died yesterday of heart failure. He was 71.

The band credit's him for showing them how to manipulate media -- before they were just a noise band. He was the guy that showed them how to start "sampling" before sampling was a thing.

Music Shit / Re: Neil Hamburger and his love of Flipper

I'm actually tempted to put out the whole thing in a zine along with some other interviews I have lying around (Mx-80, Timmy from Human Eye). Would people want it?

Music Shit / Neil Hamburger and his love of Flipper
« on: July 21, 2015, 06:36:57 PM »
Hey everybody,

It's been a while but I've had my hands full with two kids and work. But I wanted to come on and show off my NEil Hamburger interview, especially because I got him to talk about his obsession with Flipper and other stuff (not enough Zip Code Rapists stuff)

Non-Music Shit / Podcast about Hanford site
« on: April 06, 2015, 10:53:27 AM »
I wrote an article about Hanford for this podcast The Dollop, where two comedians (one of whom is a writer for Maron) make fun of crazy stories. My piece about Hanford really bummed them out, as well as its listeners -- one guy Tweeted "It's a bummer! don't listen to it while high!"

Super proud of this so I had to share it here.

That's sad about Django, especially for a jazz guy. Then again, his music isn't that adventurous, so it makes sense.

He actually got his start in a Seattle funk band called "Cold Bold and Together" that's featured on that doc "Wheedle's Groove." Listen to his first recorded performance*

*I've found only one source for this comment and it might not be true. Still, the post's author appears to be quite knowledgable: http://www.popsike.com/COLD-BOLD-TOGETHER-Seattle-Funk-45-Kenny-G-RARE-LISTEN/370220729325.html

Amazing, this one took my breath away.

IS this really how the post 9/11 kids see the '90s? I mean, sure it wasn't as bad as when shitty hair metal ruled the airwaves but just because a shitload of people shopped at Hot Topic back in those days doesn't mean it was idyllic.

Well, maybe for Rob.

So sorry to hear Dr. Humpp! Good luck on your recovery.

I would just like to state for the record that if some middle school kids beat up my 8YO child so bad that his/her mouth had to be wired shut, both those kids AND their parents would face my wrath.
