I know this guy, he played in that band Death of A Party. You don't have to like his music to appreciate this invention though.

Here's hoping for a miracle!

One of the smartest things I ever did was go see Human Eye after the first album came out. Timmy came out, layed a dead, stinking pike on the bass drum and wrapped a dead octopus around the mic stand with duct tape. They then proceeded to play one of the best live shows I've ever seen.

Mike and I were the only two dudes up at the front, losing our shit. After requesting Timmy to "turn up the fish" during the set, he grabbed it and started smacking it against the bass drum, spraying fish blood everywhere.

The drummer looked a little depressed after that.

Music Shit / Re: Bands named after songs

My friends Josh and George started not one, but TWO punk bands with songs for names:

Fix My Head (still around)
Just Head (now Roofie & the Nightstalker)

"Eye Mind" - The 13th Floor Elevators Book

Great stuff, though it seemed slow and tedious at first.

"Get In The Van" ONLY if it's an Audio book.. cuz it's even funnier!

I second that. It's like Henry Rollins spent his entire life surrounded by bitter, uber-tough dudes.

Another snooze-worthy band.  No more party rock please.

Did you see them? Unless you're a sourpuss they're about as likable as it gets.

I saw em and for a couple songs, it's fun.  Then it just gets boring.  I want good interesting songs not likeability.  Yer getting soft in yer old age, Todd.

I used to be like this.....music that's merely fun could never be good enough. Then I realized that that view had clouded my mind so badly that I had somehow thought Submission Hold was a better band than Go Nuts or The Evaporators. Then I saw all the bands live during the same week. Guess which show I walked out of halfway through. (During a lecture about feminism.)

Seriously, though...these Coolouts are a 99th percentile funbringer band.

Submission Hold?! Ugh, I almost drowned in bile just now. Was Paxton Quigsley opening? That's my personal hell right there.

Just to be clear: Group Sex isn't Chuck Biscuits. That's Lucky Lehrer.

I do agree though; the drumming on that record is amazing.

For me, Lodger all the way. If not for the over-the-topness of "Look Back in Anger" -- "Look Back in Anguuuhhhuuugh, driven by the night!" (sung kind of like Dracula....) -- it's for "Repetition," Bowie's very obvious attempt to sound like Pere Ubu.

Then Ziggy, which is still a solid album. Man Who Sold The World is great too, just for "She Shook Me Cold," a great stoner rock anthem in the same vein as Blue Cheer and Hendrix.

Also, for you guitarists that want to sound like Mick Ronson, the secret, according to Mick Rossi of Slaughter and the Dogs*, is to use a Marshall 1/2 stack and a wah-wah pedal left halfway on.

*From John Robb's "The North Will Rise Again."
