Mr. Hughes and I were having a late night nostalgia session on "Post Rock" and related. It's a case of montezuma's revenge that I picked up right outta high school. Prior to that, things were all Deftones, Tool, Radiohead, etc. Not having any previous knowledge of modern composition, non-poster/button/sticker punk, free jazz, improv, krautrock, or noise...there may have been elements of this genre I ignored or overlooked at the time. Reading posts from the heavy-hitters on this board like Loy, Soriano, Theresa, Jared, DJ Rick, etc...I know I'm STILL bronze medal in the caboose of the music express. Hell, I might even be in the locomotive boneyard under the asbestos pile. Despite my Termbo, record collector, and intellectual shortcomings, can we still have REAL TALK about POST ROCK?
Are there elements in this genre that are relevant to the current Termbo-sphere? Is David Welsh real-person POST ROCK? Any albums from this era that still bring back some BIG CHILL like memories to you thirtysomethings and up? ( I enjoyed Loy's piece about that Talk Talk album, BTW).
If this is a rehash of an old thread, I apologize.
