Music Shit / Bomp! catalog
« on: October 03, 2006, 07:48:32 PM »
couple of things I saw when looking at the Bomp mailorder website:

"7" GRAB BAG-- $5 for $10 - Ms. Suzy doesn't feel like figuring out what's in the box we found in the warehouse! Not in the mood to Google. We have one each of a bunch of singles from the 70's and 80-'s, things that were certainly BOMP-worthy mailorder titles at one time, but somehow buried for a long long time. They will be along the lines of punk or pop. It's a surprise (dont be all asking me about what's in there either, if I had that kind of time I'd Google them myself!) 45 RPM $10"

what are the chances of this actually yeilding cool stuff?

"STATE- "Nixed Life" - A much talked about band by collectors of early US hardcore, this Ann Arbor Michigan group played it fast and agressive. Besides their much sought after Ron Asheton (Stooges) produced "No Illusions" 7" from 1983,this cd includes their punishing 1983 demo,6 1982 rehearsal cuts, live show broadcast from 1983, 1985 studio outtake,1986 demo track, and 4 early proto punk style cuts from 1980/81 with Ron Asheton on guitar.A vicious and snarling piece of early US hardcore history CD $12"

tracks with Ron Asheton?? has anyone heard this?

"DISHES - Hot Property - cardboard pic slv ORIGINAL WAREHOUSE FIND - legendary Canadian early punky new wave '78 45 RPM $5"

this record rules, people should buy it, awes faggy glam/roxy music/quick (kinda) type stuff

Home Blitz will be performing tonite, Saturday, September 30th at Asbury Lanes in Asbury Park, New Jersey with the Horny Worms, Black Tie Revue, and the Nice Boys. Doors at 9, show starts around 10 maybe? We go on first I'm pretty sure. Come and watch while playing bowling balls.

http://www.asburylanes.com/

We are opening for the Nice Boys this Saturday and Wolf Eyes next Saturday.

I've only listened to the Jay Reatard myspace songs and not the full length but from those songs I agree with Nanne Tepper, except for the part about Scott having a scam.  I liked the Goner 45 OK, but now I don't think I like it that much. I hate the Angry Angles. Reatards have some sweet songs.

ah. yeah Hinman talked about some Dow Jones CD comp awhile ago but I assumed it was all from soulseek records. Speaking of which, if you havent seen, Agony Shorthand is no more: http://www.agonyshorthand.blogspot.com/

why doesn't someone reissue this shit? one song is on Break The Rules 9, and he got the rights for all the songs for that, so the band must be OK with it, right? seems like the Jetsons are one of the only Gulcher bands that has not gotten a retrospective CD at this point.  Though speaking of that, why isn't there a reissue of the Dow Jones stuff?

Tempted is one of the best songs ever.  Squeeze are the best.  Most of the pre-1980 songs listed in this thread are pretty good.

Smegma are maybe the #1 band I would never expect to see Steve namedrop.

I saw them when they headlined at No Fun Fest this past spring.  Everyone I went with loved them but I thought it was horrible.  It was like a community theatre reenactment of a noise show. They are old as hell. ESP-disk alumnus Perry Robinson sat in on clarinet, which was kind of cool, but he certainly didn't help them not look mad old. And yeah I think the Poison Idea connection is true, someone told me that Jerry A. played bass for them sometimes.  Richard Metzler was in them on vox for the last few years until recently.
