This long-awaited LP is finally finished.  We agreed to put this record out a long time ago, and various issues got in the way of getting it finished.  I have to say if it were not for Covid this record would likely remain unfinished.

Black Pus is a Brian Chippendale's music project outside of his band Lightning Bolt. If you are not familiar with Black Pus there is a link to a video on YouTube.  If you watch the video check out the pile of broken drumsticks!  Boy can he play drums.

The covers are assembled from used record covers with affixed on artwork. A nod to Sun Ra’s record aesthetic that both Brian and we here at Limited Appeal admire and was an inspiration to our record cover assembly of the label. We took a lot of time culling through the record covers we acquired to accomplish this project. With that said you may receive a record cover that has some wear along the edge, or a saw cut to signify the previous record within the jacket was a promo. Keep in mind these jackets were from previously loved records and thus will not be perfect.

We have created a couple of record bundles along with the releases, themed by bands from Rhode Island, shared releases on Load Records, or the Frank Fritz bundle.  The bundles are steeply discounted so you may want to consider one as supplies are limited.

New Releases For Sale/Distro Updates / Groinoids "Lost" LP
« on: April 26, 2019, 10:54:48 AM »
Boston hardcore outcasts who were for longest time known for having tracks featured on both “Unsafe at Any Speed” and “This is Boston Not LA” comps but nothing else ever released. About 10 years ago a lost radio beat session originally recorded in 1982 was finally released and many of us learned that these were the same folks in The Sickness , Kilslug and Upsidedown Cross. Now Limited Appeal Records gives us another lost session from 1988.  By this time their sound is less deranged hardcore, taking a turn to a heavier and more metallic style.  If you’re into Kilslug’s “Answer the Call” or any of the Upsidedown Cross material this will be right up your alley. Packaging with screen printed period appropriate Brian Walsby artwork and song titles etched into the vinyl.  The linear notes were written by Mike Williams IX of EyeHateGod, a huge fan of the band.  Scum stats ~ 300 copies

Dion McGregor is a very unusual cult figure—and certainly among the most unique recording artists the world has known. In 1964, Decca Records released an LP called The Dream World of Dion McGregor (He Talks in His Sleep). The cover featured a now-classic illustration by Edward Gorey, and the contents were unlike anything heard before: the tape-recorded musings, stories, rants and screams of a man who was fast asleep. This record has become collectable and regularly sells for around $60 on eBay and such.  These spoken dreams—or “somniloquies”—had been recorded by McGregor’s roommate Michael Barr (with whom, in waking life, he composed songs recorded by stars such as Blossom Dearie and Barbra Streisand). Barr’s diligent eavesdropping on his friend’s uncanny habit would, over the years, yield dozens of reel-to-reel tapes full of outlandish, hilarious, and often startling monologues.

The present LP is the first McGregor release of its kind in over half a century.  We pressed 120 copies, and based on the interest and inquires, if we had to do it over again, we would have pressed more.

This one was an ambitious effort, and I am very proud of the result. As for the pressing details;

It is 11" in diameter
It plays from the inside out to a lock groove
It is housed in a hardcover bound leatherette book style jacket, that is embossed to look like a bible
It is an edition of 275
The record centers are hand stamped
And being the brilliant business man I am, each record is being sold at a $4 loss.

Myself and the band want to do something special and make it affordable.

To buy a copy of the record go to www.limitedappealrecords .com

If you are interested in a copy of Kilslug's "God's Funeral" 7" on colored vinyl let me know.  I have a few copies from the band, and it is not listed for sale on the website.

Below is a brief note on what it took to get this record finished, from the recording process to getting the record released, as written by the band.

Kilslug went to hell and back to deliver Sins, Tricks and Lies. Don?t think that?s an exaggeration?we wish it was.

This three year project started after the band reformed after a 20 year hiatus. Kilslug have always been an oddball band from Boston so releasing an 11? record that plays backwards was the perfect oddball format for us. We entered into this project very naive. We had never seen another 11? record but never questioned why we hadn?t. Once we committed to that 11? format, our fate was sealed and the path we traveled was nothing short of turbulent.

Due to the odd record size, everything else involving the record was now custom. Simple decisions on materials used constantly changed, from the sleeve the record slips into, to the poly bags. Every single first choice had to be rethought completely. What should have taken 2 months to record and release took over 2 years ? delays with the pressing plant, finding an envelope to hold the record, artwork problems, settling on cover ideas, and being dicked around by vendors. Week after week there was problem after problem and we dealt with it with a ?fuck you, you?re not going to kill this project!? attitude.

And now that it?s finally done, although we?re very tired from this process, we are extremely proud of this record. It is a huge feat to get new material recorded from the band, and package it up and present a killer looking, unique product ? an odd sized, backwards playing record that is packaged to look like an antique bible. This is the only thing worthy of a follow up to Answer The Call. That was the record that, as kids, got us hooked on this band. Sins, Tricks and Lies is the record that keeps us as fans 20 years later.

We went through great pains to make sure this record came out just right; otherwise it would have come out 2 years ago. Nothing was half-assed on this project; it was a labor of love. We hope it shows and we hope you feel the same way we do.
