Salem is a really nice old town on the waterfront, with a lot of interesting old buildings and architecture.

You can take the commutter rail into Boston.  I would try to find your way into Cambridge for some record shopping.

I guess it was nice for Kaberle, but that trade for the Bruins ended up being a bad deal.  The deal was if the Bruins got to the Stanley Cup finals, they have to add a second round pick in addition to the first round pick.  Hey they won the cup, but it really had nothing to do with Kaberle.  Really strange when you think about him being in a contract year.

I love the Tim Thomas story!

I am a first time father this year.  My boy is 7 months old.  He was born 2 months premature, and is doing great.  It is a nice, but I suspect he will ignore me in about a decade.

The Far Corners contain members of the Turpentine Brothers; actually they are essentially the Turpentine Brothers under a new name. Edition of 165.  I will be sending in a copy for Terminal Boredom to review.  I will let them describe the record.

If you want to listen to the songs go to the link below

If you want to buy the record go to the below.

I had to dig pretty deep in the forum link to find the comment on the BSR Quantra ? see quote below.  This same forum post had some criticism of Thorens turntable, which I always thought were pretty nice.  One observation I had from testing it is that the vibration isolation is not great.  It is little jumpy.  Hey it is no Oracle turntable, but I figured someone might be able to use.

Forum quote
"This thread is a real hoot.

My vote goes to the BSR Quanta series of belt-drive semi-automatics. These things were designed to look like your typical Japanese machine, and they did. Play a record with one and you'll see the difference. The Quanta had a lousy - really lousy - tonearm that had to be experienced to be believed. It had a motor that belonged in a toy car, not a record playing machine. Honestly, the Garrard changer my folks bought back in 1963 for $40 was a far better machine than a BSR Quanta, circa 1975-80, and it probably had less rumble and certainly had a better tonearm.

All would have been forgivable IF the Quanta was cheap to buy. It, however, was priced to be competitive with your typical Japanese belt-drive machine, even the lowliest of which was a far better machine.

And your miserable BIC 920, which isn't a very good machine, is orders of magnitude better than a BSR

If anyone is interested in a BSR Quantra 480SX turntable for $10 plus shipping.  It will be shipped to you in the original box, with the original manual.  I have tested and it seems to work just fine.  I have no idea how to post a picture, so if you want to see some pictures or estimate the cost of the shipping for you send me a note at limited.appeal@gmail.com

Non-Music Shit / Re: Record Store Day 2011
« on: April 18, 2011, 03:34:04 PM »
It seems some of you are too cool to get up early and wait in a line for an hour or so to pick up a copy of the Big Star, Television or Fill in the Blank record(s) that you want.  I am not sure what the big deal is about waiting in a line with a cup of coffee with other people that love music (even if they don?t share the same taste) to get a record that you want.  Yeah, it is a drag that there are eBay profiteers out there grabbing a bunch of copies of whatever record.  It would be nice if they limited customers to one or two copies.

Honestly, I find the notion preposterous that Record Store Day is bad for a record store financially.  I spent the day going to stores that I support regularly, and that also buy the records that I release.  They all reported great sales, and were generally thrilled.  What is wrong in having a day that celebrates all the record stores we love?

Hey I actually purchased a copy of the Dan Melchior und Das Menace - Thank You Very Much 2LP on SSR from Armageddon Records ? No Joke

For those of you that have a fantasy team, you need to add Jed Lowrie to your team.  This guy is smoking hot right now with the bat.  The Red Sox are crawling they way back.

The Bruins are driving me crazy.  Why does it have to be the Canadians!

I watched him blow the save yesterday.  I had this feeling the Rays would come back.  Damon may be long in the tooth, but he is a clutch hitter.  Career .367 hitter with 6 grand slams with the bases loaded is pretty good.

I think this is good for the record stores, so that is all I care about.  I waited in line, I am up early most of the time anyways.  It was a little bit of a tussle, but I picked up what I wanted.  Hearing a store went from $3K-4K in sales to $20K in sales is great!

Becket has looked good in his last two starts - 19 strikeouts, and 1 run allowed.

Every year, an excuse must be floated on why NOT to pick the Red Sox, but this year all blinders and restraints are in the garbage along with the summons for the latest sexual harassment lawsuit. Does anyone else look at their pitching staff, and outside of Lester and big bounce-back candidate Josh Beckett think: eh. Of course their offense will be good, but the Rangers will be even better.

I think you are discounting Clay Buchholz' ability to contribute.

The Rockies will win the NL West, but the Giants will be the Wild Card, their pitching is to good to not be in the mix.

Everyone hates/criticise the Red Sox, but few are denying their ability to win the division.

I am in the Boston area.  The shop is Aztech.  I don't think he repaired it on purpose.  I think it was an honest mistake.  I do like idea of making him responsible for the sale of the amp.  I would like to come away with at least $100 for the effort.
