Dunno if it's a hot topic or just a "meme" or something.  Shit people are saying these days.  Me personally, I quit drinking fir six months and am now back to drinking modestly, but I know you meant the Royal You, not specifically me, Whet.  Thank you nonetheless for the inffo.

NP: Jar Moff, Commercial Music.  Another homerun on PAN.  'Oly shit!  Fills up the ears and brain real good.  Who knew the Greeks were good for anything?  IQ 119.  Brain: dry!

No, I didn't mean you at all - just talking about anyone reading in general.

I don't drink anymore, and I don't miss it in the least, honestly. Alcoholism runs in my family, and I watched my grandpa die an extremely awful death from liver failure. That shit scares me. Not saying there's anything wrong with drinking in moderation, but over the years I've seen too many friends and family members make very, very destructive decisions. I truly, truly believe that alcohol is the most destructive drug to society.

I honestly had no idea it had become a "hot topic." When I say chronic alcoholic I mean CHRONIC ALCOHOLIC, say, the type you would see on that show Intervention. Not the person who gets wasted on the weekend at a party.

If you ARE a frequent drinker no judgement, but from a medical standpoint I highly suggest taking thiamine supplements. I believe you can buy them OTC at any drug store.

Huh.  Thanks, Erin S.  I had not idea.  Why're people saying it all the time now, I wonder?  That Russian guy found out about it in the century before lastt but all of a sudden it's hip or something?

Is there a cure for it, Erin S?  It sounds awful.  But also, so many people drink drink drink and yet so few of them have this problem, no?

Treatment is limited. Many who develop it end up needing round-the-clock nursing care and end up in a nursing home setting. IV thiamine administration can help if it's caught relatively early, but the brain is often already too damaged to respond. Wernikce's encephalopathy (swelling of the brain) is another related condition.

Hey, can somebody bring me upp to speed on this "wet brain" stuff?  Not the band, the concept.  It's like something new that people are sayin all the time now but I never heard of it.  Is it about being drunkk?  I wound't know about that as I am a 110% sober tee totall man.  Why are you people saying it all the time now?  Is it 'cos I'm old?

I have taken care of multiple patients w/ Korsakoff's syndrome, AKA "wet brain." It's awful and depressing. I took care of a 45-year-old lady who'd already developed it. She was in the hospital. The first day she thought she was there for appendicitis, the second day she thought it was because she had given birth and kept screaming at us to give her her baby back. It results from a lack of thiamine in the body, which is common w/ chronic alcoholics.

Also watched a neat documentary with my husband a few days ago about a Dutch man who purchased a diplomacy (which is apparently possible, but pretty shady) to the Democratic Republic of the Congo - he went there under the assumption that he was going to build a match factory, but he was really trying to look into the smuggling of diamonds back to Europe. I wish I could remember the name of it, it was really pretty interesting.

Royal Trux 'Accelerator' LP - my dog is really into the song "Juicy Juicy Juice"

So is my 3-year-old son.

Currently listening to J.T. IV's Cosmic Lightning. It's snuck it's way into my top 10 or so favorite albums in the past year or so.

Had a horribly frustrating night at work last night (another nurse no call no showed, so I had to take over his unit as well as mine) so I blasted a burned copy of a Brainbombs CD all the way home.

Re-watched Makavejev's Sweet Movie yesterday. I don't have many DVDs, and my husband forget his Netflix password, so I can't access it on my computer. Probably my favorite movie ever. Highly recommended if you've never seen it.

Read this a couple years ago, and I remember having a hard time putting it down... "Marching Powder: A True Story of Friendship, Cocaine, and South America's Strangest Jail", by Thomas L. McFadden... It is highly entertaining, and informative. There is a cocaine-addicted cat in the (true)story!

Poor kitty. That sounds good - I'll check it out.

Just re-watched Blow-Up, it was one of my favorite movies in high school. Still amazing.

And I saw Argo in the theater, thought it was okay. Didn't live up to the hype.
