There's a lot. Users: cranefortune and Jared oughta have a bunch to say on this.

Off top: Blackout, Dreamworld - http://www.themagicswisher.net/2014/12/blackout-dreamworld-1995.html?m=1

Dreamworld is great. If you like that, the rest of the early Blackout tapes are worth checking out too: Lil' E - Playa for Life, Lil' Slim - Robbery's My Specialty, Playa Posse - Bigga and Betta Thangs, Terror - It's Whateva. Plus Lil' Noid - Paranoid Funk which was recently reissued. Probably forgetting a few. I'm a big fan of the more polished stuff Blackout did with Playa Fly and Gangsta Blac too, but it seems like the internet generally prefers the early, super grimy stuff.

Tommy Wright III - On the Run is the pinnacle of Memphis for me, though. TW3 has super deep catalog and almost all of it is worthwhile. Another personal favorite is the N.O.D. tape.

Been pretty obsessed with a couple DJ Squeeky tracks lately: Don't Turn Around and I Got a Plan

How to people feel about VKTMS 100% White Girl?

My inclination is to give them a pass as they're pretty progressive overall, but that song definitely has a couple troubling lines.

There's some sax on Better Luck by the Plugz

JJ Doll gonna have the 7" on tour or should I go ahead and buy it?

That Dead Luke reworking of Jumpin' Jack Flash is good enough that I don't mind that the rest of the CT's output is pablum.

Isn't that sacred bones. Where did like go after Wisconsin? I heard Cali.

You're totally right. Memory goes when you get old. Well there you have it, the best CT release is actually a Sacred Bones release.

Music Shit / Re: My Favorite Record Store Customer

My favorite customer is Rio, an alcoholic truck driver. Once, I was naive enough to tell him that he was too drunk to drive home. With a dead serious expression, he tells me, "Man, I ain't drinkin and drivin." He paused and, after a few seconds, starts laughing and says, "I'm drivin and drinkin." He then offered me a small plastic cup of moonshine covered in tinfoil. We shared a drink and he left. He now offers us moonshine almost every time he comes by.

Word.  First Gangsta Blac album has Three 6 / Prophet dudes all over it though.

Yeah, I never knew exactly what the deal with Can It Be? was. It came out after whatever shit went down between Fly and Triple Six, which is why Fly is uncredited even though he's on the title track. Inconsistent but Powder, Tire Shop and a few other cuts on it are really great.

RIP. Damn. I grew up as a Playa Fly acolyte, so I hated Koopsta Knicca and all Triple Six-related stuff for most of my youth before realizing how dumb it was to make rappers' beefs my own. Besides, I think Koop had beef with Triple Six at some point himself. Mystic Stylez and Devil's Playground are undeniably great.

That said--and this may be that latent bias speaking--I think these are all better than anything technically Prophet related:

1 DJ Squeeky - On a Mission
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mg1U1SxpTsk (this track is notable because it's basically the only consistent posse track)
2 Playa Fly - Movin' On
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=63JhxstZMfg
3 Tommy Wright III - On the Run
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=79VCa-V1E0o
4 Taylor Boyz - 28 Gramz: Pure Dope
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bydhsEt7hTc
5 Young Lo - Real Dealizm
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LIZqdW37r5A
6 Gangsta Blac - I Am Da Gangsta
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=W-aa8scKJOI
7 Playa Fly - Fly Shit

8 Tom Skeemask - 2 Wild for the World

Music Shit / Re: What record SOLD YOU/corrupted you?

Jay Reatard - Hammer I Miss You

As a "jock" in Atlanta, I exclusively listened to rap through high school. Eventually had a thing for a girl that introduced me to rock through Radiohead which led me to Deerhunter as the local indie hotness. Went to a Deerhunter show at the Drunken Unicorn in 2007 that Jay Reatard opened. During "All Over Again," he got mad at his band, threw his guitar down and stormed off stage. At the time, I thought it was just part of his act. Asked the dude with the whiteboy 'fro from Jay's band which record to buy and he handed me Hammer I Miss You. Completely changed the way I looked at music. Was pretty easy from there with Carbonas, Beat Beat Beat, Frantic, etc here.

Non-Music Shit / Re: List the 3 Worst Places You Have Been To

Patna, Bihar
Guy at the first restaurant I went to told me to leave or I'd be robbed. Amidst dilapidated buildings, scores of deformed homeless people, piles of human feces and literal dead bodies in the street were these shiny high-rise hotels reminding ppl how shitty their lives are. Saw that kind of juxtaposition a lot in India, but nowhere as extreme as Patna.

Easley, SC
Played a lot of baseball tourneys here in HS. Highlight was a kid on a camouflage-clad team called the Rifles telling my Puerto Rican teammate's mom to go back to Mexico. Could be any of countless similar small southern shitholes, but I spent the most time in Easley/Anderson.

Can't think of a third but someone said Beloit, so sure. Spent a couple hours there and it was definitely depressing.

Not sure if this has been posted.  D/L the 7" awhile ago and forgot to listen to it.  Fuck, this thing smokes!  Better than the demo.  https://harshwordsathens.bandcamp.com/

Good, under-appreciated band. Sick live show too. Haven't heard the 7" yet but i dig the demo. Looking forward to seeing them tomorrow and grabbing the 7" as well.

Y "Yeah, but is the singer REALLY crazy?"

This one wasn't even true til a couple months ago. Speaking of, Nurse is great w/dude from Manic singing, but i did like brian as a frontman. If he has the time to front another band that would be sick.
