Non-Music Shit / Re: what are you reading?
« on: February 28, 2011, 05:48:05 AM »
Am reading a paperback book from 1970 called the Rolling Stone Record Review that contains RS record reviews from the years 67-70.  It's interesting because a lot of the reviews are the opposite of what you'd expect from Rolling Stone.  Totally bags on the first couple of Zeppelin albums and lots of other stuff they consistently suck the cock of today.  Even has some Bangs stuff!  Shows that RS was a relevant rag once upon a time.

yeah, i subscribed to this archive service they have on their website for a couple months last year, and it was definitely worth it. you can read every page of every issue there. spent lots of nights digging through those reviews (1st stooges was funny, so-so review for the 1st creedence record, i can't remember things very well but there were lots of others... interesting to see how all those classics were really received when they came out). many very cool things on "the country hype in rock" (ca. '68), altamont (30 pages or so!), lots of very great pictures.... recommended!

a whoppin 100 copies - that's crazy!! i mean, with that many copies somebody might even get to listen to this stuff! your buddy should really think this over. he could make 1 copy and break it in half, for example.

Quote
Of White Light/ White Heat, the album on which "Sister Ray" first appears, noted music journalist Lester Bangs said that his litmus test for telling a True Punk Rocker from a Poser(TM) was to pull White Light/ White Heat from their record collection and note if the grooves on the record showed signs of having been played.

True.

works with guitar wolf, too, i guess. and beefheart.

they had the 14th best album of the first decade of the 2000s. shouldn't be too hard to jump 13 spots.

in a couple years no one will even remember the fact he was in black flag anymore. he'll just be the guy who made fun of hipsters.

I'm still not getting how this gal was insulting him.

i guess he thought it was a bit insulting when she went "hey sweet tooth!" to get a laugh out of her friends (and as someone said, on camera).
