I like the single on m'lady as much as the LP.  In fact, I might like it more.

Music Shit / Re: Checking out records at the public library
« on: February 07, 2010, 04:29:08 PM »
My college's library has a bunch of the folkways stuff, but it was all scratched.  I checked out a pete seeger record out of curiosity and it was almost unplayable.
bummer

Bikini Kill tapes are all gone.

Surprised we sold so many of a 2-song tape.

Posted on here before but never about distro stuff.:.

Statuestory Tapes is a small-run cassette label run under the guise of a real record label.  I've been working for Lunchbox Records for years, but didn't want to release tapes under the umbrella of the record store/label.  All tapes are professionally duplicated.

SsT-02    GRIDS  -  "THE FIRST YEAR OF GARBAGE AND B-SIDE"   CS
Noisy, out of control, echo-laiden punk and rock.  This tape encompasses the first 8 months of the band's existence.  Songs originally released on a long out-of-print demo, scrapped songs from their first 7" on Lunchbox Records, and lost live recordings.  Tape has two completely unreleased songs, and bizarre versions of older songs.  Constantly compared to the AMREP roster, but these rare recordings offer noise a more blown out feel.  Not far of from Pissed Jeans, The Jesus Lizard, Francis Harold, or even Swans.

SsT - 03   MOENDA - "SOPHIE'S PALACE"   CS
Chopped and screwed from pieces of a prior soundtrack to a film that no one knows, Sophie's Palace is an exercise in monotony. Peaks and fjords of sonic copulation put to tape, swirled and delayed into a concoction not fit for digital. Two long form "songs", Sophie's Palace is Moenda's gift to SsT, in supremely limited quantities. Unfit for nearly pregnant mother's and the perfect item to put as an offering on Jack Kirby's grave.  Moenda features most of the infamous Charlotte band CALABI YAU, who were responsible for Charlotte's amazing YAU HAUS.  Tape has been compared to DNA, BLAME GAME, & US MAPLE.  The band's 7" split with Great Architect is being released the first week of February on Kinnikinnik Records, and a 12" will follow in mid spring.

SsT - 04    BRAIN FLANNEL - "TAPE"   CS
Ominous pop jarred loose from a garage and a basement, Brain Flannel have hazarded five overdriven songs onto magnetic tape for your enjoyment. Interloping male & female vocals dart through a brash instrumentation that would fit nicely on a mixtape with early SAINTS, AVENGERS, and BAGS. And they talk about drugs.  Band is ex-LOGIC PROBLEM (Sorry State/No Way/etc.), Grids, and up-and-coming happy Charlotte band YARDWORK.

Available on Kinnikinnik, Distributed by SsT:

GRIDS - RIOT GIRLS   CS
Grids covers "Suck My Left One" and "Rebel Girl".  Because cassingles and Bikini Kill both kick ass (and never went out of style?), Kinnikinnik decided to put this out.  Really stylish silver covers, punk as fuck.  Tape was repressed after the initial pressing sold out, there are only a few of this pressing left, and no one is making anymore.

Coming in March -
SsT - 05   CHRONIC YOUTH - "LIVE AT 201212"
Chronic Youth has floated to the top of the overburdened shit pile that is Florida hardcore.  Feedback driven punk rock that has strayed as far from the Black Flag mold as is possible while still maintaining the urgency of early US hardcore.  The sounds that bleed off of this tape sound like a 60's space launch recorded by Alan Lomax.  This live performance was recorded on the band's first date of their lengthy East coast tour, this acts as a document of a train heading for a wall.  The band features members of DEAD FRIENDS, CARBS, and most bands that have been bringing Gainesville's hardcore scene national recognition.
100 copies

Out Of Print:

SsT-01   METH MOUNTAIN - "TAPE"
100 copies, super duper mystery punk from the same people that made up a handful of other Charlotte hardcore bands.  7" record available on Self Aware/Made In Kansas/Lunchbox Records.  Tape is still available from the Lunchbox Records webstore.
SORRY THIS JUST BECAME OUT OF PRINT

Music Shit / Re: Vinyl Re-issue Bootlegs

this turned straight into a mississippi records boot talk instead of talking about punk boots.

Dicks lp is a godsend, but no one is tlaking about how sketchy that is.

I wonder what the reserve was on this piece of crap.

yeah isn't that around or above the usual price for that?
I don't get why people use reserves anyway.  I know it serves a purpose, but if you won't sell it for anything below a certain price, have a starting bid of that price.

Non-Music Shit / Re: Maximizing Ebay Profits

put auctions up on sunday evenings.  People are always sitting around killing time, and it's when you can get the most cash.
unless everyone else holds this view and then you got alot of compatition.

I've been listing for years, and sunday is always the best day.  NEVER have an auction that ends from Thursday-Saturday.  I guess with auction snipers being so prevalent now it doesn't matter as much, but for everyday non-hype records, especially impulse buys, having shit end on sunday is an old fail-safe.
