Music Shit / Re: Oh Sees

I pretty much filed them under "another nowadays garage band", until their last album.
There's something more in it... a light touch of psychedelism: And I like that.
To me, they're one of the few bands that are getting better with the years.

Up until the last one, Castlemania, I only heard a couple of tracks off comp's but nothing really stood out that made me wanna start looking into their back catalogue. Took a chance eventually, and lucked out on that last LP (nice cover art, and the Castlevania reference just wormed itself into my head too i guess) - anyways, I agree it's pretty solid and the songwriting sounds way, way stronger than anything else I happened to hear. Apparently less fuzzed-out/less rockier than a lot of their other stuff (yeh?), ..but then i thought i read somewhere it was just John Dwyer on his own for that last one so maybe thats why it was all changed up. Some really nice ideas & some great songs. Definitely checking out the next one. Hopefully they incorporate some more of that "light touch of psychedelism", if that's the difference...

I cried a little on June 30, 2008.

I have absolutely fucking had it with this board. I have gotten called more names today than I ever have before, essentially for expressing my opinion just like anybody else. Whoever this person is that was talking shit about me on here was not joking around this time. I draw the fucking line at being called "mentally defective" because my feelings differ from someone else's and I had a valid point to make too. I openly just asked that guy if he's a Nazi, because saying things like that sounds like Nazi shit to me. Fuck this; I don't need this, yunno. I only ever hopped aboard this Terminal Boredom thing to find out about new records and concerts and shit. Not to be fucking abused, is that clear?!

NOTHING ON THIS BOARD
NOTHING ON THIS BOARD
NOTHING ON THIS BOARD
AND I'M THROUGH...

FUCK TERMINAL BOREDOM AND ALL WHO SAIL ON IT, OK?! goodbye...

WTF...

Walls are drenched.. Had to pay for two service calls ...water drips from all around
Cathy's ceiling... MY ceiling.. Don't use shower...

they have AIDS. Please let's stop the madness and maybe if we're all strong, we can put an end to this kind of thing. Etc

Taking your tone into account, and to partially quote Chris Morris, this'd be of the Bad AIDS variety then?:

Still waiting on the last six myself, as it seems are a fair few folks. Starting to wonder if those last 3 have been even recorded, let alone pressed up.

LoudLove were you the guy w/ the Cheveu shirt on at Motor City?

Yeah that musta been me alright - I'm a longhair? Was there with a friend but we didn't stay long (he wouldn't be mad into his punk/DIY now at all) - we were pretty plastered/pissed off after rushing halfway across the city to meet with another friend who didn't turn up anyway so we left after a few pints. Was out in Chinatown all day in some place called the Whiskey Tavern getting plied with free shots, then went to Jimmy's Corner in Manhattan and then on to Motor City after that.

Was a fun week but that fucking heat was atrocious. Got to see John Wesley Coleman at Death By Audio on the Friday. Was a bit of a car crash. Spider Bags were his backing band but no one seemed to know what anyone else was doing. I guess it was either a case of total punk or totally couldn't give a fuck. Was entertaining though and Spider Bags were good on their own (the best of the night for me). Left after a bit of the headline act - Liquor Store. Seemed like they had a good following there but i didn't get the big deal. Got the impression it was a bit of a groupie fest going on.

Hoped to see more - like the Dennis Coffey/Dirtbombs gig and the Purling Hiss at DBA last Friday but folks I was over with hadn't a clue who they were and I'd of had a tough time persuading them and couldn't of been arsed to do so. Next time i go back I'm just gonna be completely selfish and disappear for the week into some kinda gig vortex and see all of the cool shows i wanted to see.

Got to see some great jazz in Club Small's one of the nights up in the West Village too. Was a few great talents up there, was well impressed  - pity the NY Jazz scene's so small and splintered these days though.

Nice one, Victim of Time night sounds like my kinda thing alright. Won't make it to that gig Enthusiast, will only be there on the 11th day despite the topic heading (my bad).

Seriously pissed I'm missing Milk Music, The Men, & Nude Beach all on the same bill the week (or so) thereafter.

All the same, cheers for the tips folks.

Just bumpin' this back up. Doesn't seem to be much gigs-wise on that week - everything seems to be kickin off mid-June. There's a Melvins gig and Timmy Vulgar's playin' that art show - will try get to both of those.

Oh yeah blues, jazz, hip-hop (more golden age/old school, than the newer stuff) experi-mental is good too - any good DJ nights, etc. - and any other cool art/music related shizness on at the weekend-next week till the 10th - be sure to leave some info. Thanks.

Sorry dudes. I heard this guy is in Alaska and appearing on the new season of Deadliest Catch. Although I will say I did eventually get the Pheromans 12" I ordered from this guy after about 2 months, even if it was packaged by a mongo.

Fuck, guess that's why I'm getting no answer re his end of a trade I sent awhile back.  Cool, but it'd be nice to at least post here once and let people know before taking off with a bunch of outstanding stuff.

Wasn't he doin a bunch of tape comps of local bands for some subscription thing too? Seriously staying a thousand miles away from these subscription/record clubs in future. There seemed a general consensus that Scotch and CDR (still waiting on 6 singles from "Year" Two for the last 22 months or whatever) were one of the more reliable ones too ...at least at some point a long while ago...

Cities / Re: Dublin
« on: May 23, 2011, 03:58:39 AM »
I'm going to be in Dublin the second week of June.  So far I know that The Pacifics are playing a gig and I will be visiting a Leprechaun museum.

I heard the bars were too expensive to drink at, and in order to get drunk you have to sneak in boose.  Secret Books and Records sounds great.

If you're in town on June 7th (Tuesday) Workman's Club has Julian Lynch, Big Troubles, & Ducktails playing the Workman's Club. Not sure if either of those are of interest to you. But 16 euros is very decent for 3 acts like those in these parts: http://www.tickets.ie/event.aspx/julian-lynch-the-workmans-club-dublin-07-June-2011/NSZCR

Was in there (Workman's Club) for Moon Duo last week for the first time and thought it sounded great. Nice small venue with good set-up.

Nice one - will defo try make the Foggy Notions art exhibit thing/show. Unfortunately won't be there on the night of the 11th of the Pygmy Shrews/Pop 1280 unless its on during the day. But great info. Keep her cummin', folks! Much appreciated.

Will be in town from June Bank holiday weekend to the following Saturday afternoon (think its the 3rd-11th) - visiting a friend who recently had a job-related move from Dublin to Brooklyn. Would appreciate suggestions for good gigs, exhibitions, points of interest-Termbo related. Serious plans to paint the town red/green so any suggestions for good night spots re clubs/pubs also are welcome.

Have been a few times already, so have done most of the tourist-y shit before at certain points. No real plans but the only real tourist-y stuff we might do is that old-school hip-hop tour that does the whole 1520 Sedgwick Avenue, Wild Style-related shtick (think Grandmaster Caz runs the one I've heard about) and maybe that John DeJoseph walking tour (which sounds hilarious and kinda weird but what better way to scope out the music sights...). Will be staying in central Manhattan (jammed out big style & got a place to crash for free) so I don't think there'll be too much issue where shit might be happening...

Thanks in advance, folks.
