I pass over tons of bands with terrible names. It's guilt-free with the indie-rock bands and crust punk bands.
Often I'll say as much and my friends will think I'm silly. But just as often I'm sure I'm right.
When the Ooga Boogas came to Pgh a few years ago, everyone here was embarrassed by their name and I still can't figure out why. They played with the Burndowns- ouch, rough name.

Non-Music Shit / Re: what are you reading?

I just finished John Fante's Ask the Dust. I hated the beginning but it grew on me. Fante has a Bukowski sort of writing style that pre-dates all the "cutting edge" writers. Unfortunately, I overdosed on his followers in high school and it's now hard for me to read choppy arty fiction. Good book, though, where basically nothing happens in early LA.
Next up: David Lee Roth, Crazy from the Heat. I can't wait.

thank you for poorly guiding me through this Ciggy. I used to speak good Italian but when my grandmother died everyone in my family stopped speaking it, I think I could pick it up again if I took a class. Also; last time I was there which was 9 years ago most of my younger relatives spoke pretty well English, and this is in a pretty small town too, so I'm sure by now a lot more of the country is speaking English.

I only can only lead a turd to the flush. I've actually been meaning to brush up on my Italian, despite being Polish. Coincidentally, I went to my cousin's wedding this weekend in Newark, a horrible place if the drive said anything. He married an Italian 'princess' who's father is off the boat. Kind of like "My Sweet 16." It was the most ridiculous thing I've ever seen or attended. Tomorrow I'll make a long post about it with in depth analysis, ala SSR or Al Kida.

EricO, I'd be interested in Mondo Guano if you scrape up a couple copies.

i deal 100% in cash. i tryed to get a checking account 2 years ago at PNC and my name popped up on a "do not give a checking account to this asshole" list, due to some mistakes i'd made when i was 20. i've thought about trying to get one in the near future. not sure if bank of america or some other huge bank will just give me one or if not how the hell i can go about getting one. i like dealing in cash tho.
If you're on a list, it last for 7 years and every bank or credit union shares that information. You're fine when you're 27 if you don't eff up more. Just use post orders if you need paper that's not cash.

Both of my parents were born in Italy. My brother and I are both working on dual citizenship. Like Scott mentioned, it is  lot easier because all we needed pretty much were copies of both of our parents birth certificates. It's been awhile since my mother told me everything was sent in so it must be a long wait for "processing". I know I will be a citizen before SSR. LOL

Is this a lie story? If not, definitely push to get it. Italian bureaucracy is extremely slow on all fronts, but it'd be a sick place to live. You just need leather shoes, a fashion mullet, and scarves to succeed there as a young man. Start learning Italian because you won't get far without it.

The funniest part of that post is Ciggy is posting it from house arrest. Ciggy, respond to my emails, what is up?
Ha, my post was classic defensive Pgh-er. I do like it here though. I have not received any emails.

Boo hoo, Vinnie. I love you, brah, but your anti-Pgh attitude was tired even before you ran away to the Land-Where-Your-Friends-Don't-Give-You-A-Hard-Time-If-You-Smoke-Crack.
Just because you're a loud-mouth fag with a shitty haircut who incites hatred from norms doesn't make you special (Tanzer has since stole your cut). Yes, Pgh is a cunt's hair smaller than Buffalo. Yes, you're always effing your friend's ex. Yes, there are genuinely awesome things here like Jerry's and Tessaro's and Mineo's and Paul's and Spak Bros to enjoy and ethnic foods. Sucks, but deal get over it, Mouth.
I don't care if it sounds lame, but I intend to end up here because it's cheap and hilly and close enough to bigger cities where I can get my rocks off. I have to admit I'd like to take a detour soon.
But hating on Pgh seems kind of silly considering how many good, even just talking about music and and shit, things happen here. Ever been to a innercity park sober before? It's great.
No hard feelings, though.

Hike at Volcano National Park. Chill at Punaluu Black Sand Beach or pretty much any beach. Find a snorkeling spot. Eat BBQ or fish in crummy restaurants. Buy local honey. The punks there are more hippie than punk, from what I've seen.
If you can swing it, go to Kauai. It's way better and has fewer people. I can give you some recommendations for there if you're interested, but they're all outside things.

Currently watching Jay Weis as a contestant on Who Wants to be a Millionaire? He described the band as heavy metal played by guys with mullets. He's a doctor now and looks exactly the same. Loser walked with $6000. Rock on!

Caught the Cubs vs. Pirates opener the other day. Sick game. Wish I didn't have to go to a bar to watch.

I could just barely hear the 18 Khz with headphones at full volume. I'm 29 and have never worn earplugs. I feel lucky because I need good ears for my work, which I'm currently procrastinating.

Dave I stopped by the store sometime between Christmas and New Year's on my way back from Toronto. You were on a birthday cruise. Your store was great. I bought Slicks and the Koala and Scratch and Sniff.

Non-Music Shit / Re: Cheap airfare
« on: March 25, 2011, 09:19:19 AM »
I'd only use the discount websites people recommend to you that they have used.
I had a miserable experience with cheapoair.com this fall. My gf and I got tickets to New Zealand for a great price, but in the months leading up to our departure, they changed our flights at least 6 times. They said it was because they couldn't negotiate the cheap price with the airlines and even tried to raise our fare, which I argued down. We ended up on different airlines and our departure and arrival times were over 12 apart each way and she had multiple shitty transfers. I'm not a baby but it sucked to spend 12 hours in an airport on either end of a 18-hour flight when you traveling with someone. And their customer service was so Indian and shitty I couldn't understand their calls to an insane degree. And they got sued for related things a couple weeks after I got back.
