- too poor (or have other pressing concerns which require monetary attention)
- don't trust the clods that run studios
I don't even own an amplifier. I recently bought a guitar, it's the first guitar that I've actually owned since someone stole the one my parents got me for christmas when I was twelve. Actually, it's the first piece of musical gear that I've actually owned since then. Everything else I've ever used has been borrowed or stolen. Lots of borrowed and stolen gear. Went back to my parents for christmas and their basement is like a battlefield scattered with the battered remains of broken down, busted up equipment that doesn't belong to me in the first place. "hey, you mind if I borrow this for a couple of days" and three years later it's in pieces on the floor of my parents basement. I'm pretty lucky I got such kind, understanding and supportive friends, or I'm really lucky that I'm bigger than most people and I can be a scary asshole when I feel it's necessary.
Anyway, I've never trusted bands with "pro-gear" because it means that they either have really rich parents, or they don't have drug/alcohol/life problems. Both of those things make for poor rock 'n roll.
Dude this is the dumbest thing I have read all day .. I was poor as hell when I was a kid and I have had one hell of about with drugs booze and mental illness but through it all I made sure I had nicest gear I could have cause it's the fucking tools of my trade . The whole idea that struggle makes you legit is bullshit keep lying to yourself so you feel better about being lazy ..
