Love Collector's 'Human Bodies' EP brings you Buzzcocks meet Bloodstains Across Texas hyper-active hits like the title track 'Human Bodies', 'You Drain My Bodies', & 'Circuit Breaker' while 'Non-Stop Love' is reminiscent of the Undertones drunk on Lone Star garage punk tunes from their out of print debut 'My Baby Goes Waaah!' EP on Big Action Records.  Tracks A1, A2, & B1 on this hot slab o? wax were recorded by Orville Neeley III (Bad Sports, OBNIIIs) in his sweltering garage studio during a brutal Austin summer day in one marathon session on reel to reel analog tape.  Track B2 'Circuit Breaker' was recorded in legendary Austin studio Sweat Box by Mike Vasquez.

Buy it here from CQ Records...http://cqrecords.bandcamp.com/album/human-bodies-ep.

It's just Sylvain Sylvian & David Johansen backed by generic NYC rock dudes.  Saw 'em 2 weeks ago in Austin with Black Joe Lewis who was great!    They didn't embarass themselves but it wasn't mind-blowing or anything.  I'd say half the set was stuff from their new records which are sorta dull mid-tempo rock numbers and the reggae breakdown they did during "Trash" was totally unneccesary.  Overall, it wasn't mind-blowing or anything, it was fun to sing along to the "hits", and it was two fifty-something year old dudes who managed to not totally embarass themselves.  But $40 is steep!  Yikes!  Maybe if Black Joe Lewis is part of the package it might be worth it but I would say pass.

Are you serious? Most bands playing SXSW play more than once, and I've never known them to not be able to advertise the non-official shows.

Apparently, this year SXSW is trying to discourage non-official shows which they call "poaching".  Really lame on their part.

Music Shit / Re: American Hardcore - the movie
« on: January 24, 2007, 01:19:24 PM »
I saw this a few days ago.  Some really cool footage.  I thought it did a better job of wrapping up the hardcore movement than the book did.

The whole East Coast jock thing was embarassing.  A total dude fest.

The absence of the Dead Kennedys was bizarre.  I figured they'd at least get the "fake" Dead Kennedys in it.  It seemed like they went out of their way to avoid mentioning them.  There has got to be a story behind this one.  Anyone know???

Music Shit / Re: Joe Meek
« on: December 19, 2006, 07:24:40 PM »
Was it Joe Meek who warned Buddy Holly about the premonition he had about his fatal plane wreck, tore apart his studio looking for bugs, and spent his nights picking up homosexuals, or is that another eccentric record producing genius?

Here is an interesting Meek-related trivia note, Anton Levey called "Telstar" the most Satanic song ever recorded.

Music Shit / Re: Beatles boots (Beatlegs)

Anyone know the name of the record that was rumored to be a Beatles / Stones / Dylan recording session?  It's a bunch of session guys trying to fool the record buying public doing their best Lennon, McCartney, Richards, Jagger, and Dylan impressions.

Horrible band, reggae sux....mud titties or not.
I think they were so inept that they unintentionally created some weird new "punk / reggae" mutation.  I'm not a reggae fan by any means, but I really enjoy The Slits.  I think you'd have a hard time shoe-horning them into that genre.

The Slits reunion in Austin was really fun.  A good mix of their punk stuff, punk-reggae stuff, and new stuff (which sounded good to my ears).  I'd recommend it if you were a Slits fan.  They didn't dissappoint!  Ari Up is a strange bird!  She wore these stretch pants that had stoned-wash jeans printed on them!  Horribly awesome!

Music Shit / Re: Manikin

Dude!  Manikin has been going at it for 5 years now and I say it's about time people take notice.  And it has nothing to do with hype.  Alfie is a great guitar player and Alyse & the Beej are the most rock solid rhythm section in the city of Austin.  Good stuff.

Agreed that these guys are great!  Really quite soft spoken guys who just explode when they hit the stage!  And the drummer is one of the best I have ever seen!  Amazing!
