New Releases For Sale/Distro Updates / I WAS A TEENAGE ZOMBIE FANZINE
« on: September 29, 2009, 10:27:04 PM »
i thought this might appeal to some people on here so here it is. i do a hardcore punk fanzine called I WAS A TEENAGE ZOMBIE. this is my second issue, i have about 15 copies left before i go to print up some more. so far, all who have read it have given me positive feedback, so i guess it's worth advertising for, so basically what i'm trying to say it's not a pile of shit. i put a lot of time and effort into this and it looks good and the writing is pretty decent, i think it could have been better but i was in a rush to get it done before i went on tour this summer so it is what it is, next issue will be better as is always the goal. this is the cover

and here is what those goons at Maximum Rock'N'Roll said about it:

if you would like to get a copy either send me a message on here or to the email address listed in the review. 3 dollars ppd in the US, if you're overseas get in touch and we can work something out. TRADES ENCOURAGED.

while i'm at it, i thought i'd mention that i am in an instrumental surf punk band called FINS. not a lot of people's thing but again there might be some on here to which this appeals. we are not a "rockabilly" or "horrorbilly" surf band or anything cheesy like that, no gimmicks, think more traditional old school surf like ventures or marketts with a tinge of man or astroman/shadowy men mixed in with late 70's and early 80's punk. we have a "pre" demo tape out and it looks like this:

This is what MRR said:

FINS
This band plays some great instrumental surf punk songs that have been stuck in my head for days. They make inventive use of the twelve bar blues progressions in a lot of these songs, some of which are more happy-go-lucky while others are more moody, and they strike an interesting balance between a punk energy (which is also pretty well conveyed in the production, actually) and an overall mellow vibe that work really well here. My only complaint is that I don't think they needed to include the live set on this tape, as they already picked their best songs to record, but this is easily ignored. (Dan) (15 song cassette, no lyrics included c/o Lasangacide Tapes/1142 Illini Dr./O'Fallon, IL 62269)

tapes are $4 ppd (other countries get in touch) and i only have a couple left. if you want a tape and a zine i can give you a discount or something. thats pretty much it.

Did Thorns of life ever release anything??? I pick up Cometbus whenever I can find it....I was always a fan of pinhead Gunpowder, blah, blah, fuc.

i stumbled upon a live set of theres at gilman and it's decent but it doesn't do them justice, i don't think any real recordings ever came out even though there were supposedly planning to do something on vinyl. that's a bummer though, i didn't even know that they broke up.

i agree that his zine is still good, but that's no suprise because he is such a good writer. double deuce is so good. and also, from what i've heard thorns of life is pretty decent so there is hope.

Who the fuck is Slices?

Some band who said they liked Black Flag in an interview, which is apparently responsible for this whole "liking side 2 of My War" trend that's been raging since, like, 1983.

all i said was that they have contributed to the trend RECENTLY because their sound is associated with that particular side of the record. you're right, of course not everybody who likes my war side b/black flag likes it because of slices, but there is a lot of hype RECENTLY with people who are uneducated/uninformed, and so they hear slices and the label that comes with them and cling on and talk it up because they don't know any better. there's no need to be a dick about it just because you haven't heard of them or because you disagree with me, i'm sure you'd probably like them anyways, it's good modern day hardcore thats worth mentioning because most stuff in that genre that's coming out these days is total crap. and i'm no black flag encyclopedia but i'm pretty sure my war came out in 1984.

side b of My War

trendiest side b ever

i agree with this but i also think that it has been more of a recent trend lately, especially because of slices claiming their sound to be "crossed out playing my war side b", which in my opinion isn't even what they sound like at all. they're just heavy, like a more punk/hardcore influenced version of warzone womyn, mantooth's first band, mixed with brain handle, whom they share members with. but how sweet is nothing left inside? the only word i can think of to describe it is "crushing".

I imagine about 0.0000009% of people who dig side B of My War have ever even heard of "Slices", and I'm not one of them.

Is the fact that I love Sabbath so much the reason I like late-era Flag so much? Probably.

same here. i think the "in my head" lp rules hard.

i'm in the same boat as well. all early sabbath rules, all later flag stuff rules
