Music Shit / Re: Saints - Are there any good records?

i agree with ssr X was much better before lucas could play 'properly'.
i saw them a lot in sydney '83 to '85 with the cafiero rilen lucas line up & they were unbelievable. a force of nature. like a tornado coming straight at you. furious chaotic & completely unpredictable.
i saw them quite a few times after that when cathy green came in on drums between '85- '87 they were still great but less outta control  & ? friendlier. cathy's a great drummer to be sure, but the band were very different. like lucas was becoming very competent on guitar & playing more when he sang.
i kinda lost interest around '87. although they could always be counted on to put on a good rocking' show, but to me they had become predictable dependable & thats not what i was after.
i saw them once after rilen died. they're still a good rock band but they used to be that & so much less, & with X less is definitely more.

i'd go see em if i lived in the states & hadn't had the chance before. i'm sure they still rock. but it's like 'the saints' thing. two completely different bands with the same name a common thread & that's about all.

It wasn't till I heard Eternally Yours that I really realized just how great they were

i bought the Eternally Yours lp at the end of 1978. i'd just turned 16 i didn't have a clue about punk rock. i'd never heard the 1st The Saints lp or 'Never mind the Bollocks' or anything much else for that matter, but Eternally Yours changed my life completely & forever... for a start The Saints were from brisbane just 70 miles to the south !? inconceivable that anything that great come from anywhere near where we lived.
in 1981 my friend that i uh discovered the saints & punk rock with committed suicide. in between those two points in time we managed to wear the grooves off that fucken record. i've hardly listened to it since, but i still know it back to front & inside out. it's not just a record it's Eternally Yours !
i'm old i don't care about being cool or not or any such fucking shit. i just thought i'd share my dumb little story with ya.

ummm "prehistoric sounds" is probably hard to find because it was recorded after the bailey / kuepper rift & the band, the label & everyone involved had moved on before it was even released. i'd say it's 50/50 crap & excellence. 6 good tracks spread out over two sides interwoven amongst bad r&b & other such nonsense. the good tracks are pretty great & the crap track are pretty bad.

radiobirdwoman have nothing in common the saints <diametrically opposed> in fact.

99.5 % of australian rock music stinks. roughly about the same average as everywhere else except maybe in yer dreams.

fuck everywhere

there are basically two very different bands with a common thread known as 'the saints'. one started in brisbane around '74 & finished in london '78 & another which is really "chris bailey's - "the saints" that started when the other saints finished & continues (probably) in some form or other to this very day in europe

That part in "No Your Product" singlehandedly justified Australia's existence.

i always loved that song & the bit  in "know your product" where fat boy bailey goes "yeah let's shoot the professor ? alright!" but am not sure that or anything else justifies the existence of the wide brown land know as orstralia
