I have nothing to do with releasing this LP, but France's Headwar have birthed an ugly monster of a 12'' that you absolutely need to hear.

Good call, was thinking of making a thread about it too. These songs are very good!

From Make a Mess blog:
Olympia, Washington's enjoying some of the best bands in the country again, and out from the basement comes High Places EP by Gun Outfit. The group's timeless, dueling guitar work twists and braids with melody around the trading vocalists, hypnotizing a growing legion of true believers stateside and abroad. Carrie Keith and Dylan Sharp shred with patience and deliberation, casting spells with the grace and power of Patti Smith or Husker Du, the lyricism and six-string tenacity of Felt or Television. Four songs and an empty room, you'll sit close to the needle to put it on over and over again. After last year's triumphant Possession Sounds LP (PPM), High Places is a bright, open page in Gun Outfit's continuing songbook.

Music Shit / Re: 2011 HARDCORE PUNK
« on: February 25, 2011, 10:29:30 AM »
Probably missing Culo and School Jerks tomorrow because i'm broke. real bummer.

that's the dumbest reason for not going to a show ever. if you have no money go anyways and try to sneak in or get someone to pay for you, or just ask if you can go in because you're broke. these bands aren't rockstars, they aren't going to be upset over missing the 5 dollars from one perosn. they are all down to earth people, i'm sure if you REALLY wanted to see them and they knew you honestly couldn't pay to get in they would help sneak you in or lie and say you're in the band or something. be a punk and go!

As a dude who has booked a lot of shows, you don't get in if you don't pay.
As a dude who has booked a lot of shows, you do get in if you don't pay. With a little reminder that bands need money to fill the tank...or that you can help by sweeping the floor afterwards.

That said, HPP new 7'' is definitely one of the best HC records this year already!

Holding hands and singing Kumbaya doesn't fill the gastank, hippie.
Whatever. Not being a dick doesn't make me a hippy. Turning people away for money reasons is lame; If you explain the way shows work to them, maybe next time they're broke they'll help you flyer, cook & clean. Oh but maybe that'd be too cooperative and 'hippy'.

govt-funded

This myth about Europe need to die, too. Very few DIY/underground bands benefit from culture money, it usually goes to a totally different type of scene/bands.

Upcoming Shows/Tours/Events / Re: Touring in the UK?
« on: January 05, 2011, 01:21:46 AM »
First question is: where are you from? I assume you're american, which means you need a work permit to play shows in the UK, however small and not beneficiary they may be. They are 80 USD or pounds, if memory serves me well. Bands enter the UK as "foot passengers" on the ferries to avoid that, leaving their euro driver to carry the van & equipment across, but it's risky and some bands have been denied before. I guess it depends how much money you expect to make back or invest in making sure you get in.
