Music Shit / Re: SILENT BARN FOOTNOTES

I'm hoping that this place....

http://www.daylightmiami.com/

....will eventually become the Miami version of the Silent Barn. In any case, we're currently trying to set up a show there for Yussuf Jerusalem (no kidding).

Whoa, that place looks amazing.  Hopefully the glass walls don't break easily.

Music Shit / Re: Tom Waits

so my girlfriend and i are breaking up and she's keeping all of the tom waits LPs (has all of them except the stupid rare ones like bone machine and black rider). i think that i have most of them at my dad's house, but still. damn.

how is it determined as to who keeps what records? can't you just say 'no'?

i could probably say no, but i'm not sure which ones are whose. there might be some that are technically mine, but since the thing is ending very gracefully and i know that i have a bunch of the same titles back home, i'm not making a fuss. plus tom is one of her favorites.

Is the split because you beat her up?

Looks like it works near most decent sized colleges and universities.

Looking at that Meth Teeth / Christmas Island deal....

How does a double split 7" work?  One complete 7" from each band and you just have to buy both?  Or each record is split x 2 records?  Or all the songs are the bands collaborating?

You are a far nicer man than I.

Biggest shocker so far: Tina is a man

Oh no no my friend.  He is a far nicer man than I because I am not a man at all.  My niceness however shows no bounds.

those emails dont get replys

I always reply bands I,m not into and explain what kinds of bands I usually book. Saves you from dealing with future annoying mails

This is true.

Not necessarily.  I find responding to bands opens the lines of communication and therefore they keep trying to contact you, asking questions or looking for help.  Usually if I ignore they don't tend to write back.  I know it sounds rude but I probably average 10 or more unsolicated emails a day.  Sad to say, I generally don't even have time to listen to their songs on myspace.  Unless I've heard of them before or they mention that they are friends with someone I know, they generally go straight into the "NO" folder.  Sorry bands!

I make it very clear that I,m not interested in booking them and forward contacts to other local bookers that would suit there kind of music better. Works for me every time. I got a standard wording that I send to all of them. I just copy and paste. You just gonna make it 100% clear you dont want em around. You cant close a door and open a window, like we say around here
My experience is that if I dont respond the bands will just continue to mail you. But its possible that the silent treatment works better in the US of A

You are a far nicer man than I.
