Non-Music Shit / Re: Breaking Bad
« on: August 23, 2013, 12:40:25 PM »
Not sure if this has been mentioned already but have you guys seen this theory that's going around Reddit:

?In Breaking Bad, Walt has a habit of taking on some little traits of the people he has killed. When Walt killed Crazy 8, he started cutting off the crusts of his sandwiches?just as Crazy 8 had done. Gus drives a Volvo. After Walt kills Gus, at the beginning of Season 5 (at the Denny's), Walt is driving a Volvo (w/ NH plates). When Mike and Walt meet at a bar in an earlier season, Walt orders his drink neat while Mike has his on the rocks. After Mike is killed, and Hank offers Walt a drink in his office - he asks for it on the rocks. At that same scene at Denny's, Walt arranges his bacon into his new age. Someone else used to do that. On top of that, he's using Skyler's maiden name on his fake ID. Based on his history of picking up traits from his victims?I believe Walt is going to murder Skyler before the series is over, and it probably had already happened before he showed up at the Denny's in the Season 5 cold open.?

Someone here mentioned he was acting like Gus when he went to throw up, which would support this theory as well.

Just ordered this book for our little hipster.  Ya know, as an alternative to boring, mainstream counting books.

"To call Happy Punks 1 2 3 'adorable' would be an understatement. It tells us 'Welcome to Planet Earth!' and 'Here's some cool stuff you could do in life!'"?Teresa Taylor, B*tthole Surfers

From authors Jana Christy and John Seven comes Happy Punk 1 2 3: A Counting Story that tells the tales of these 12 awesome punks as they punk it up with other ilk-minded rebels, explore the confines and weird alleyways of their city, meet new friends, and mosh the night away as they teach toddlers how to count to 12 in the most punk rock ways possible.
As an alternative to boring, mainstream counting books, Happy Punks is a brand-new revised take on an old-school lesson that every child eventually has to learn. And as a parent who loves punk as much as any other hardcore enthusiast of this genre, sitting down with your kids to count to 12 in the same way that The Ramones would count to four is an imaginative teaching technique that will teach kids the importance of learning stuff." - Nerdy With Children.

I could easily sit through that whole series again and not get bored.
I just did. Sounds clich?, but it really had "that" something that not only allowed it to stand the test of time, but still makes it enjoyable no matter how often you have seen it. Especially now that we are flooded with a thousand series, you can really notice that its quality is still unmatched - or at least it still works for me better than anything else.

What kind of computer work and where do you find it, like Elance and oDesk or something?

I set-up and sometimes maintain social media sites for various businesses (mostly in the real estate & related fields: home builders, flooring companies, interior design, etc).  A family friend is a web designer/developer who is well established and has many clients who ask him to set-up social media business pages for them  -- so he sends them all my way.  I take content from their website and rework their graphics and logos to look good on Facebook, Twitter, Blogspot, Google +, Linkedin, etc.   Mainly working with older folks who don't have the time or interest in learning how to do it themselves.

I'm self-employed, doing freelance computer work out of the home.  So far, it's been the best job I've ever had.  It has it's downfalls sure:  some clients are really annoying and hard to deal with; income is not reliable so you have to be good at saving when you have good times; etc.  But I get to choose my own hours, work out of the home, and can turn down jobs if it seems like the client would be too annoying.  And it's quite profitable when there is work to be had.   Haven't had any trouble with clients not paying, knock on wood.

It may mean nothing to you now but a FYI for other people out there: if you previously had insurance and don't have a lapse in coverage for longer than 63 days, you can use the time you were on your previous plan against the time they are trying to make you wait... in other words if you had your previous plan for 12 months or longer you would have no wait period.  This is why people are willing to pay so much for Cobra.  Erin, I think I was trying to explain this to you on your Facebook page a while back.

Music Shit / Re: The Lost Sounds
« on: January 22, 2013, 09:51:50 AM »
Does anyone have any cool Lost Sounds gig posters?  I'm jealous of anyone who got to see them live, I became a fan of Jay Reatard during his last solo stretch and treasure the times I was able to see him during that run.

I should have a few somewhere, including a never seen one i made for my going away party from Columbus mid Sept '02.  My gf at the time forbid me from copying/using it, she didn't like it.  They played in Scotty and Nicole's basement on Hudson and High for free w/ party rockin' rollers The Offending Instruments (pre- TNV) and Tree Of Snakes.  (we ultimately passed a hat, but you know how that goes, might've made a dozen bux)  At one point user: Tina went up to Jay and/or Alicja and (wasted) asked "Why are you guys playing for free?  For him." in her best slur.  "I don't know, because our booking agent sucks?" they joked as one of us handed her the whiskey bottle she was really looking for.

Lots of good times making a few shows happen for 'em in Cbus and riding w/ 'em to other OH towns for other shows.  Good/funny stories too, of course, but right now i haven't got the time time.

Hah.  Glad someone remembers my drunken one-liners cuz I certainly don't.

Where else did they play in Columbus?  I think I remember seeing them in Laura B's basement too, but maybe on a different tour?
