Music Shit / Re: Best hangover record
« on: June 16, 2010, 06:55:20 AM »
Someone said Poison Idea? Hell yeah ... 'Painkiller' inspires me everytime to get drinking again. Although, it must be said I like a little Mitch Hedburg with a hangover.

But what I've been listening to a lot lately is this German print of the Velvet Underground LP I picked up at the Mauerpark flea market the other day ... fucking mint. Why hadn't I bought it before? I think secretly, I expected this one with the different cover to arrive in my life around about .... last week. Or something.

That, and I recently quit smoking weed every day, just for the weekends now Cheech and ... hell, it makes a lovely background racket. That, and I picked up Wasted Time's 'No Shores' EP and the Bukkake Boys EP, and they obliberate the teeth grinding anxiety I get from listening to fucking Enya, Simply Red, Gary Moore and the Dirty Dancing OST at work all day, with relative ease.

Brian Jonestown Massacre - Who Killed Sgt. Pepper?
Was not expecting this to be as good as it is. Darker than anything I've heard from them before. It sounds like they've been following up on current underground stuff like Pink Reason and Indian Jewelry, and this is their response. Lots of songs go past the ten minute mark, too. ex-Spacemen 3 bassist is involved. Good stuff.

Funny you should say that, I came home from work the other day and my wife was playing some Brian Jonestown Massacre and the thought popped into my head "so when the FUCK did she start listening to Pink Reason??".

Music Shit / Re: Priest or Maiden?
« on: June 16, 2010, 06:39:41 AM »
... good thing about it was that it prepared me for the Hell Awaits front.

YESSSSSSS, SLAYER. I got into them shortly after Maiden and is still the one band from early high school that I play almost daily. Bad day at work? Slayer. Good day at work? Slayer. Any of the multitude of situations that can possibly occur ... ??

SLAYER.

OK OK, so some of the later albums are a bit m?h, but they did rule it back in the day, and their old albums still piss on any crossover in the last fuck knows how long.

I'm all for Iron Maiden, anywhere up to and including 'Seventh Son ...'. If I remember correctly, it was the first band I was a fan of anyway so, also for nostalgic reasons, yeah.

Doesn't every city have at least one?

Yes.

I saw the Berlin equivalent open for the Jesus Lizard, but I'm fucked if I can remember their name. Actually, I believe I forgot it on purpose.

I used to play a lot of Suicide when I was tripping. Once, I thought Wolf Eyes would be funny, but it wasn't.

I watched American History X for the umpteenth time on TV last night, and only noticed for the first time that in the party scenes at Stacy Keach's house, Ethan Suplee is wearing a Skrewdriver shirt.

I wish I still lived with my parents. I would have so much money

Fuck that. Living with my parents again would certainly be a short stopover on the way to the electric chair ...

I changed my mind ... I find Poison Idea's 'Just to Get Away' has all of the values held dear by America: telling your boss to fuck off, guns, booze, cars and underage girls.

Music Shit / Re: fav 5 elton john standards

Between Mud, Kraftwerk and now Elton John, this board is really, really into music my dad liked thirty five years ago.  Anyone up for some Deodato, Alan Parsons Project or 10CC?

Alan Parsons, ah fuck me in the ear.... I've spent the last 18 years polluting my body with intoxicants in an attempt to remove any memories of shitty DadRock that were programmed into my malleable little mind by my stepfather. The tiniest APP, ELO or Steely Dan soundbites trigger abstract violence.
