you seem like a real jackass. i sort of knew that going in, and so you're right, i'll stay out of this very important conversation so as not to impede its progess.

but as a final point, because i can't help it, i will say that i did read your thread and it's mounds of very thorough evidence and i still think that labelling people people pedophiles because you read a social media post that suggested the "grooming" of a 17 year old girl occurred, is not just inaccurate to no purpose, but unhelpful and inflammatory.

adding dissenting opinions, nuance or facts to a situation need not detract from any harm that actually occurred. i too am familiar with the internet rhetoric tactics of false equivalencies and "well actuallys," however, i have not done this. my points specifically addressed your approach, your framing, and your assumptions. but forget it. i'll get off yr thread and go self-flagellate for an instagram vid

thanks for your "well actually" contribution.  why are you weighing in if you dont know or even care to find out what actually happened.  We are talking about teenagers, not adults, being manipulated by adults for sex, adults getting kids drunk and fucking them while they are passed out, 14 year olds, and you want to talk about agency.  Do you have any other insights to add or next time just keep your non-thoughts to yourself.  Hope the SHOCK VALUE of the title of the thread didn't put you in a tizzy not that it matters since you don't care anyway!

I quoted you in my comment because you were the one that said this: "The kind of people that tolerate that are either cowards, shitbags themselves, or people that feel powerless (ie women) (and understandably so) to make a change."

I was directly responding to this. This powerless women narrative. This is common and it's generally reductive.

I was also specifically talking about the title of the thread, the sensational "cole alexander outed as a pedophile." I have read the social media reports about his "case." I put in that little qualification about not reading all the shit because I'm not familiar with most of the burger bands/dudes caught up in this. I am familiar with the black lips. I thought I made these points clear in my small post. perhaps I did not.

I'm not sure why you're you're being hysterical about it. but I do remember why I don't engage in such shit on the internet.

Yes we should be better now but clearly we aren't and people in positions of power have decided its fun for them to perpetuate shitbaggery in the world of music.  The kind of people that tolerate that are either cowards, shitbags themselves, or people that feel powerless (ie women) (and understandably so) to make a change.

I already regret "weighing in" on this, but I'm so tired of this heroic victim narrative, particularly regarding women, but I'm sure you could make the argument elsewhere. As if women have no agency, as if they are not capable of desire, deceit, and whatever other weird complicated things people get up too. it's infantilizing.

also, a pedophile is someone sexually attracted to children, as in pre-adolescents, under 12. the only purpose in calling someone a pedophile, who isn't, is shock/outrage. re: the title of this post, not the entire burger records whatever, because I didn't read all the reports. cole alexander would not be considered a "pedophile" because he slept with 17 and 18 year old girls.

uncut gems was an incredibly stressful movie

safdie bros talking about furby: “What’s the saddest, dumbest thing that existed in the ’90s? It’s the Furby,” Josh explained over the phone to Vulture, with his brother on the line, too. “Because they didn’t really mean anything — they were just kind of these things.”

-- it didn't occur to me when watching that furby was symbolic of something in howard ratner's (sandler's) character, but it fits

New Woody Allen is pretty enjoyable, if you usually dig his stuff, no reason not to like it (much better than Wonder Wheel anyway).

a rainy day in new york? where'd you find that? maybe i'm bad at the internet but i can't find it on torrents or for purchase even

i like natasha lyone, but i think my problem with russian doll is that for all its pretensions its ultimately just a psychological trauma/making amends kind of narrative. like her character resists the idea that the universe has a specific kind of morality, so they throw in a multiple-timeline sci-fi construct, which ends up being a bit of a fake out because she still needs to face her damaged "inner-child" to move on. it's like they wanted some depth to exist they just didn't want to think about

did anybody watch mid90s? pretty nostalgic stuff. outside of style, the story felt pretty low effort (family problems, drinking, drugs, learning lessons)

i guess no one else here has watched that "Larry Charles' Dangerous World of Comedy" show on netflix yet?

dude comes across as a bit of a dickhead.  they have him in some massive US Veterans graveyard for the interview.  won't spoil what happens, but was kind of glad it went down the way it did.

he comes across as flip and seems to overcompensate for self consciousness. he was uncomfortable to watch, though I'd probably watch more

anybody watch Mike Judge: Tales from the Tourbus? I'm only one episode in but it's funny. Johnny Paychek was made to be a cartoon

Has anybody ever seen the Canadian show "Less than Kind"? It's about a dysfunctional Jewish family in Winnipeg and it's pretty good so far

Have not seen but sounds up my alley. Will check it out.

I've been enjoying Joe Pera's slow and sweet show on Adult Swim

joe pera is a treasure

I finally rented "Tully". Stressed out mom of three gets a nanny and they develop a quirky bond. Diablo Cody is great with dialogue, and Charlize Theron had some witty lines, but this movie left me feeling kind of blank. Definitely not on par with "Young Adult", which I loved. Also features what I considered to be a completely unrealistic sex scene, which ruined the overall gritty, downbeat realism of the film. Not a bad movie at all, but not what I was hoping for. Single guy with no kids here, so I'm not really the audience for the film, which could be why I didn't dig it.

this movie is bad and i'm spoiling it:
there was no quirky bond and no unrealistic sex scene because there never was a tully! mom has a psychotic break because her husband plays too much video games. hated it, cheap trick.

anybody see Blackkklansman or Under the Tree? i'm trying to pick a movie to see in the theatre and my options are limited
